Obituary

On April 6, 2013, Linda Suzanne Stewart passed away at Virgina Mason Hospital in Seattle after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Linda was born on August 26, 1951 to Tom and Mary Stewart in Bellingham, WA. Linda graduated from Sehome High School in 1969, then from UW nursing school in 1973. Linda lived to be a nurse and loved her job. She started her nursing career at Shuksan Nursing Home at the age of 15.

Linda specialized in OB care, which took her from Bellingham, WA to Santa Rosa, CA, Sedro Woolley, WA, Beaumont, TX, Visalia, CA, and Ellensburg, WA. Along the way, she touched the lives of so many people, keeping in contact with them through the years. She was a great leader and took part in community services. While in California, Linda earned her Masters Degree from the University of Phoenix. She became part of the administration team while in Texas, and many of her employees regarded her as a great boss.

Linda loved her family and spending time with them, which was one reason she relocated to Ellensburg. She was always very supportive of her family and even inspired her niece, Amy, to become a nurse. Linda is survived by her mother Mary (Bill) Brough; brother Ron (Juile) Stewart; nieces Amy (Merritt) Washburn, and Alli (Tyler) Mitchell; nephew Tim (Angela) Stewart, and seven grand-nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

  1. Linda’s life was too short. But she left her mark in the nursing profession,in patients lives,in friendships she shared with so many. Linda was my friend,, my mentor and my supervisor the time she was a KDH. We kept in touch by email , last talking at Christmas. I am so shocked and saddened at her passing! The world has lost a great lady, the profession has lost a great nurse, and heaven has gained an angel with a great sense of humor!

  2. I worked with Linda in Visalia, CA and remember her smiles and laughter! She was a great patient advocate and will never be forgotten.

  3. Linda was such a kind, caring individual. I was fortunate to have known her. i enjoyed working with her at KVH. She will be very missed. She exemplified leadership. Hear’s a toast to you, Linda, may you be soaring through the heavens!

I worked with Linda all the years she was at Kaweah. She became our “informal” social director much to the delight of most of us! Linda had a sense of fun and a lot of energy. Plus she was very organized and creative. She was the one who made sure people got flowers, gifts, or cards for their birthdays or special events. She also was the one who often put “memory books” together for those retiring or moving on. I am so fortunate to have been the recipient of one of her beautiful books. Linda had a caring heart and was a wonderful friend. My thoughts and prayers to her family. She loved them all so very much.

  5. So sorry to hear of Linda’s death. I worked as the Birth Center Medical Social Worker at Kaweah Delta, and so enjoyed her guidance and humor. She was a wonderful leader and mentor. God Bless you, Linda and your family.
