Obituary
Carl Allan Bertapelle was born on August 29, 1951 in Denver, Colorado to Val and Arthelda (Straght) Bertapelle. In 1983, he moved to Washington state and worked as a Whatcom County Building Inspector. Carl was gifted musically and played instruments of all types.
Survivors include too many children, far too many grandchildren, and a couple of great-grandchildren. Family was Carl’s pride and joy and his eyes would always light up when he talked about them.

Carl was a good man and I am saddened to hear he has passed. I knew him only through work – but he was a man of integrity and kindness. He went out of his way to help people move their projects forward while making sure safety issues were resolved.
Whatcom County lost a great public servant. My condolences to his family for the loss of a good man.–tk

Carl, I just found out today at an inspector’s meeting about your passing and I’m stunned beyond words. Your passing leaves a huge void in our profession that no one else could ever fill. Your dedication, depth of knowledge and willingness to share it helped form who I am today and I’m proud to say that you were a great colleague and friend. I’m going to miss those conversations at conferences with your deadpan, Sahara Desert dry humor and razor-sharp wit. Rest easy, my friend.

Carl is extraordinarily memorable person…… Mind like a steel trap, simultaneously professional and personable. That playful sense of humor combined with the ability to tell a tale- some based on life experiences…. a deep person who cared passionately about his family and their well being.His friendship through the years has been such a blessing. My sincerest empathy as you process this loss. I picture him up there playing with the band….. Play on Carl, Play on….
