Obituary

Carl Allan Bertapelle was born on August 29, 1951 in Denver, Colorado to Val and Arthelda (Straght) Bertapelle. In 1983, he moved to Washington state and worked as a Whatcom County Building Inspector. Carl was gifted musically and played instruments of all types.

Survivors include too many children, far too many grandchildren, and a couple of great-grandchildren. Family was Carl’s pride and joy and his eyes would always light up when he talked about them.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Please share your memories of Carl in the online guestbook for his family to read.

  1. I just heard today of Carl’s passing and I would like to say how very sorry I am for your loss. I worked with Carl at the County Building and Codes for many years until moving back east. He was a great man we had a lot of fun together. He was well respected as a co-worker and as an inspector. He is going to be missed terrible by some many people.
When I opened up this site and saw the picture you chose, I said yep that is the Carl I know and remember.

    God Bless you all.

Rest in peace my dear friend.

I am going to try and attach a photo that I have of him with Kathy Barrett (Altman), myself and a friend of Carl’s at a restaurant locally in Bellingham.

  2. Carl will be surely missed by many people. Especially in the building trade. He was a walking text book on codes and was one of the only to have the common sense it takes to get things done. I will miss Carl deeply. We had some great times and I always enjoyed his calm demeanor and sense of humor. He would never forget that trip to Missoula for the Grizzly football game. What a great memory. RIP Carl my good friend.

  3. The twinkle in his eye when he was pulling fast one over on one of the grandkids is something that I will always remember. The looks of horror from the kids when he’d offer them liver snacklets makes me laugh thinking about it.
    Love you!
