Obituary

Sharon Marie (Anagnostou) Roof passed away in Bellingham on April 3, 2019.

Born in Bellingham on August 25, 1950, to William and Nellie Anagnostou, Sharon grew up in Kelso, Washington. She graduated Kelso H.S. Class of 1968, attended Western Washington State College and Whatcom Community College. She married Mike Roof on October 5, 1974. From 1975-2006 she worked in Accounts Receivable and Registration at WCC. As Union Representative for WCC, she was politically active.

Sharon was generous and enjoyed being with family and friends. She had a wicked sense of humor and was always good for sharing the best jokes. She had a wonderful way of making people smile and laugh – a true gift indeed. As the secret Easter Bunny, she delivered as many as 500 baskets to friends and co-workers.

She loved spoiling and pampering her pets! Sharon was an avid reader and participated in Book Clubs. Going to the movies, swimming, and traveling were all activities she enjoyed. Whatcom Agility Team and Whatcom Community College Retirees were groups that Sharon helped organize.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father William Anagnostou, her sister Marianne Anagnostou Stiltz, and her father-in-law Cliff Roof. She is survived by her loving husband Mike Roof, mother Nellie Anagnostou, brother Gerald Anagnostou (Elaine), sister Lisa Dallas (Bill), mother-in-law Dolores Roof, brother-in-law Kevin Roof, brother-in-law Tom Stiltz, and dear friend Mary Drahos, along with ten nieces and nephews.

At Sharon’s request, there will be no services, but you can remember her by making a donation to your local animal shelter.

Sharon was a good person to work with, we always had good laughs together. She will be forever in our hearts.

  2. Sharon and I were a team in Student Services at Whatcom community college. I was one of the first employees, and I think she joined me not too long after!

My memory is a bit foggy, but it’s been awhile!)
It is sad to hear that she is no longer with us.

  3. Earl Bower says:

Sharon was one of the most good humored and plain spoken people I knew at WCC. She didn’t just hole up in the business office but was a welcome part of our social events and life at the school. After retirement she graciously organized breakfast events for us retirees, and always had good stories to share. We will certainly miss her, and our sympathies go out to Mike.

  4. Cherri Brown says:

I am so sorry to hear of Sharon’s sudden passing. I remember so fondly the years of fun and friendship we shared. She will be missed and my deepest sympathies go to Mike and the family.

  5. Rod Portillo says:

I knew Sharon through my childhood friend Mike. Before Mike moved to Bellingham after his military service in the early seventies, we did a lot of things together such as camping, surfing and just hanging out in Southern California. But I knew when Mike met Sharon up there in Bellingham he wasn’t coming back. She was his everything and much more. When I went up to visit them in the late seventies and met Sharon I could see the connection that they had. Sharon had this contagious laugh that wanted you to keep saying things that were funny to keep her laughing. I will miss seeing my old friend Mike with his Sharon, but I will always have those memories of them together.
