Obituary

Our beloved son, Shane Lawrence Ormiston, age 18, was taken from us unexpectedly on June 10th, 2015.

Shane had just graduated from Windward High School and was looking forward to a career  in aviation or engineering. Shane was a bright and exceptional young man.  While he was in his second year of French in high school he traveled to France with his class.  He stayed with a host family and ate dinner in the Eiffel Tower.  He was a member of Boy Scout Troop # 483 for many years and later their Venturing Crew.  He had been to Hawaii, Disneyland, Death Valley, many campouts and road trips with Scouts.  He also loved our many family camping trips we took in our travel trailer during the summer months.

Shane was an avid reader.  He always had one or two books checked out from the library at a time.  He preferred a “real book” rather than reading on his Mom’s Kindle.  He was hoping to get hired at the Ferndale Library where he spent much of his spare time after school.

Shane’s senior project was a Pet Food Drive for the Whatcom Humane Society and to volunteer in the Cat TLC program.  He loved all animals, especially his cat Fresca, who is also a rescue cat.

Shane was also a graduate of The American Legion’s Evergreen Boys State program which teaches young people how to lead, organize and implement a government.

He loved music and singing.  Shane learned to play the violin when he was younger while attending Mt. View Elementary.  He loved listening to Good Charlotte, Tom Petty, U2 and Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum and many others.  He also was interested in photography, taking lots of nature photos.  During the weekends in winter, you could find him snowboarding up on Mt. Baker with friends.

Shane was kind, giving, compassionate and had a gentle, sweet soul.  If you were feeling down, his bright smile would lift you up!  We will miss his quick wit and humor and especially those beautiful blue eyes of his.

Shane will be forever missed by his family and friends along with his United Church of Ferndale family.

Shane is survived by his loving parents Michael and Stephanie Ormiston (Foster) of Ferndale, his older brother Zachary Ormiston, his grandparents Lawrence (Larry) and Sharlene Foster and Curtis and Robin Ormiston, his aunt Tiffany Ormiston, his uncle Mark Ormiston and many cousins.

“I only miss you every minute of everyday.  You will never truly be gone, I will hold you safe in my heart forever “- Melissa Bray

A private internment will be held at Stillwaters inside Greenacres Memorial Park.

Shane’s Celebration of Life will be held at the United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington St., Ferndale, WA on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 4:00 pm.  Reception to follow.

Our dear sweet Shane…Our hearts are forever broken. You are a wonderful, kind, caring and compassionate young man. Your life was just beginning…you had your hopes and dreams ahead of you. You touched so many lives, I wonder if you even knew how many people thought the world of you. You had a smile for everyone and always tried to make everyone laugh. We are so very proud of you and feel lucky to be your parents.
Every day is a struggle to get through without you. You should be here living your life…you were taken from us tragically too soon. We will love you forever, son.
Until we are able to hold you again……….

  3. Dear Stephanie, Mike and Family,
Such a horrible thing to happen, we know that words are useless, but wanted to let you know we are thinking of you and feel the ache in your hearts. When we read his obituary, we were so impressed with Shane’s accomplishments and talents. Stephanie, I hadn’t seen Shane since we worked together at Baron Heating, but knowing you and Mike, such wonderful people and parents, it didn’t surprise us at all that he grew into such a special young man.

May the Lord quiet your hearts,

    Ned and Pam

So very sorry to read of the tragic loss of your Shane,We may wonder why this happened?
Jesus well knew the Bible statement:” Time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all” [Ecclesiastes 9:11]. He knew that
    sometimes bad things just happen.
The wonderful future resurrection hope is the promise found at John 11:11-44
Revelation 21:3,4 states that death will be no more. and pain
will be no more, the former things will have passed away.
Our Creator, Jehovah God, by means of his son Jesus, is going to undo the tragedies that touch our lives today.
