Obituary

Our beloved son, Shane Lawrence Ormiston, age 18, was taken from us unexpectedly on June 10th, 2015.

Shane had just graduated from Windward High School and was looking forward to a career  in aviation or engineering. Shane was a bright and exceptional young man.  While he was in his second year of French in high school he traveled to France with his class.  He stayed with a host family and ate dinner in the Eiffel Tower.  He was a member of Boy Scout Troop # 483 for many years and later their Venturing Crew.  He had been to Hawaii, Disneyland, Death Valley, many campouts and road trips with Scouts.  He also loved our many family camping trips we took in our travel trailer during the summer months.

Shane was an avid reader.  He always had one or two books checked out from the library at a time.  He preferred a “real book” rather than reading on his Mom’s Kindle.  He was hoping to get hired at the Ferndale Library where he spent much of his spare time after school.

Shane’s senior project was a Pet Food Drive for the Whatcom Humane Society and to volunteer in the Cat TLC program.  He loved all animals, especially his cat Fresca, who is also a rescue cat.

Shane was also a graduate of The American Legion’s Evergreen Boys State program which teaches young people how to lead, organize and implement a government.

He loved music and singing.  Shane learned to play the violin when he was younger while attending Mt. View Elementary.  He loved listening to Good Charlotte, Tom Petty, U2 and Kenny Chesney, Lady Antebellum and many others.  He also was interested in photography, taking lots of nature photos.  During the weekends in winter, you could find him snowboarding up on Mt. Baker with friends.

Shane was kind, giving, compassionate and had a gentle, sweet soul.  If you were feeling down, his bright smile would lift you up!  We will miss his quick wit and humor and especially those beautiful blue eyes of his.

Shane will be forever missed by his family and friends along with his United Church of Ferndale family.

Shane is survived by his loving parents Michael and Stephanie Ormiston (Foster) of Ferndale, his older brother Zachary Ormiston, his grandparents Lawrence (Larry) and Sharlene Foster and Curtis and Robin Ormiston, his aunt Tiffany Ormiston, his uncle Mark Ormiston and many cousins.

“I only miss you every minute of everyday.  You will never truly be gone, I will hold you safe in my heart forever “- Melissa Bray

A private internment will be held at Stillwaters inside Greenacres Memorial Park.

Shane’s Celebration of Life will be held at the United Church of Ferndale, 2034 Washington St., Ferndale, WA on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 4:00 pm.  Reception to follow.

  1. Michael and Stephanie,
My heart goes out to both of you. I am so very sorry for your loss. If there is anything, anything I can do for either of you, please let me know. Michael has my cell number.

  2. Tia misses you so much Shane, you were her companion on all those outings, her ski partner in the mountains and her date to the dances. Thank you for being such a fine, young gentleman to her – we trusted you completely with our daughter. You don’t know what we thought of you, but we always hoped that one day you would be part of our family.

  3. Dear Shawn, you were a member of the same church family that my husband and I are. What always drew me to you – knowing that you loved music. (I love a variety of music also and shared in your interest in tom petty songs). The other thing-loving animals. Especially cats. Animals sense vibes about us and they seem to know who really cares about them. We have a rescue cat, and love her dearly. Your quiet gentle presence will be missed by all, for sure.

Shane was a bright light and a very caring person. I enjoyed talking to him at the end of a hectic day as he waited for his mom to finish up at work. He will be so missed by so many people he has touched. Love and hugs to his family and friends. Love Mitzie

  5. Okay so Shane and I were really, really close. We were friends for about 6 years. I loved him so much and he and I laughed and talked about after my graduation getting married and living a happy life together. To him i dont think it was a joke and I wouldnt have minded if it wasnt. i fell in love with Shane when we started this school year together. We sang a lot, like our song Demons, by imagine dragons. Shane had so much passion that when we sang i felt like he was singing to me.. Lately its been hard without my best friend. I wait everyday by my phone just hoping he sends me a message saying “Hey girl where are you. So like you to make me wait to hang out.” or some cheesy pick up line to tell me how much he loves and cares for me. I miss him so much. I love and care for him still. I miss how he would hug be or poke my sides because i would squeak. Shane, I love you so much even if youre gone i have the bear you gave me for valentines day. Ill see you again someday. Dont forget me <3
