David Lee Kopp, age 68, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2018 in Bellingham, WA. He was born on September 15, 1949 in Mandan, ND to Elizabeth & Frederick Kopp. He graduated from Mandan High School and attended the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, graduating 41st in his class of over 700 in 1971. He then spent over 10 years in the Army Reserve, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He worked for ExxonMobil as an engineer in Corpus Christi, TX. After retiring from Exxon, he earned an M.S. from Iowa State University and later a teaching degree (M.A.) in Mathematics at the University of Washington. He taught high school math at the Chrysalis School in Woodinville, WA for 14 years. After retiring, he continued private tutoring until last year.
He is survived by his loving wife Deirdre (DeeDee) Dilbeck-Kopp, stepdaughter Jennifer (Aaron) Rose of Portland, OR; brothers Bob (Gail) of Benton, LA, Bill (Nancy) of Bismarck, ND, and Dick (Brenda) of Fort Worth, TX; nieces Sara, Lindsey & Whitney; nephews Bill & Jared; and new great-nephew Braden.
David was an avid Seattle Mariners and Seahawks fan, enjoyed the outdoors, traveling with his wife, and living the last 4 years on Lake Whatcom in Sudden Valley, WA. He was a kind and gentle man. He was loved and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
