Obituary

Susan “Grace” Olsen went “Onward and Upward” to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at the age of 67.

Susan was born March 21, 1949 in Bellingham to Madaline and Robert Dusenbery. She grew up in Whatcom County and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1967. Susan received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication from the University of Minnesota. She was employed by HCJB “Heralding Christ Jesus Blessing” and worked in a variety of ways including scouting out resources and fundraising for a needed hospital expansion in Quito, Ecuador.

Due to health issues, Susan retired from HCJB and returned to Bellingham. She began the non-profit “Project Ninevah” whose mission was to deliver the gospel of John to every residence in Bellingham. Susan walked through each neighborhood completing the mission in four years. She loved sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone she met and made a difference in so many lives. We will miss her wonderful sense of humor and testimony of persevering under trial.

Susan was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by brother, Matthew Dusenbery; sister, Becky Peterson; cousins, Pam Kaufman and Ann Greer; family members and many friends. Susan was an active member of Immanuel Bible Church. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

The graveside service will be 10:00 am Monday, Dec. 19, 2016 at Woodlawn Cemetery. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017, 1:00 pm at Immanuel Bible Church. Reception will follow.

Donations in Susan’s name may be made to Immanuel Bible Church or Team Julia, 2000 West North, Bellingham WA. 98225. Thank you to the compassionate caregivers at Avamere and Hospice, who helped Susan in her final months of life.

  1. What a lovely tribute! I especially love the pictures of her! Thank you to all who helped her during her last days and weeks! Those of us from afar sure are grateful!

  2. I am so sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences. May the God of all comfort sustain you and family as you await the promises found at John 5 : 28,29 & Rev. 21:4 where God promises to do away with all the things that cause us suffering and pain including death here on the earth forever.(Ps 37:29). It is my sincere hope that these thoughts comfort you and your family at this time.

    Sincerely, Marilynn Burns

  3. Oh to slip the surly bonds of earth! Susan, I have been picturing the welcome and celebration that must have awaited your arrival with such great anticipation and preparation. Was there a chocolate fountain? And how many of those whose souls you touched on your perpetual ministry were there to give you great hugs of thanks? Was Jesus the first to embrace you?
I hope you know how your ordeal over the past year has united and grown us as a true family of sisters and brothers. You gave such an example of grace to your caregivers and to each of us to the very end….but that was/is just the beginning of a happy ever after.
Well done, good and faithful servant!
    ‘Til we meet again,
    Love,
    Cathryn Fairfield
Ps. I’ll take good care of Blossom for you.

  4. So sorry to hear about Susan, but heaven has gained a wonderful thoughtful full of life person. I enjoyed her as a classmate and she always had a smile on her face. The 1967 class of FHS will remember her this summer as we celebrate our 50th high school reunion. It is always hard to lose someone so dear, but she is in wonderful hands and she gets to see the face of God and he will say, “Well done, faithful servant”.

  5. All who knew her loved her. Infectious laugh and heart of grace. She is in the presence of her Beloved.
