Obituary

Ruby Mae Van Dorn, age 69, a longtime resident of Sandy Point and Birch Bay passed away on July 3, 2017, at Whatcom Hospice House in Bellingham, WA. Ruby was born on September 9, 1947 in Wenatchee, WA, the daughter of Robert De Lee and Audrey Mae (Hill) Turner. She was raised in both, Mt. Vernon and Kennewick, WA. She graduated from Kennewick High School. Ruby worked in the bulb fields, poultry processing plant, and made her final career with her own cleaning business. Family always came first with Ruby, doting on her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed growing flowers in her beautiful garden. She had a beautiful smile and a laugh that was contagious. She was a source of inspiration and courage, always the first to reach out and help others, a selfless heart. She attended North Bay Christ the King Church in Birch Bay and was a member of a local Bible study group. Ruby is survived by her two children; daughter Tanna (Dennis) Kluss of Coeur d’Alene, ID and son Forrest Van Dorn of Eureka, CA; dad Von Ray Waldrop of Big Lake, WA; sister Shirley (Lloyd) Watkinson of Burlington, WA; grandchildren Haley (Cody) Johnson of Post Falls, ID, Devin Kluss of Coeur d’Alene, ID and Benjamin Walls of Eugene, OR; one great grandchild; ex-husband Jerry Van Dorn; nieces and nephews Scott, Marisa, Jax and Camryn Reetz; Zach, Tina, Penelope, Eloisa and Wade Watkinson; step mom Lorraine and half-sisters Anita and Ginger; aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert Turner and Audrey Waldrop; brother Jimmy Ray Waldrop and sister Audrey Ellen Saldivar.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, July 5, at 12:00 PM at Moles Farewell Tributes2039 Main St., Ferndale with Pastor Tyler Michel officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Bay Christ the King.

  1. We are saddened by Ruby’s passing but happy that her soul is walking with Jesus her savior. She will be remembered as a giver of her time to her church and set an example of what a volunteer should be.

  2. We only knew Ruby for a short time but she was one of those special people that we admired and loved, a wonderful lady. She will be missed.
