Obituary

Robert Thomas Wakeley passed away suddenly at home on November 30, 2015 in Deming, WA with his mother by his side. The son of Sharon (Setzer) Wakeley, he was born on September 11, 1964 in Bellingham, WA where he lived until 1978 moving to Deming, WA.

Robert graduated in 1985 from Redwood High School for Developmentally Disabled. After graduation, he worked at Northwest Industries for 10 years, where he enjoyed waking up every morning and taking his “girlfriend” flowers. Robert went to Camp Horizon summer camp where he got to see long time friends.

Robert enjoyed so many things, from going fishing, being outdoors, spending time with his dog, and his greatest joy being with his nieces and nephews. Robert loved going to their vacation cabin at Lake Tyee and watching wildlife with his Mom. When not outdoors, he enjoyed watching John Wayne and Star Trek and listening to Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton. His favorite “hobby” was sneaking stuff from his mom and hiding it in his bedroom; he knew that just drove her “crazy”!

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary Jane Elkins and John Henry Setzer. He is remembered by his mother Sharon Wakeley, brothers Jim Wakley, Art Bailey, sisters Cheryl Hendricks, Judy Chartier, Sandra Griffin and Christy Porter.

A special thanks to the caregivers and family that were a large part of Roberts’s life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Horizon, 7506 Gemini Street, Blaine, WA 98230 in Roberts’s memory. Private burial will be Tuesday, December 8, 2015 followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:30pm – 5pm for Robert at the Deming Log Show Grounds, 3295 Cedarville Road, Bellingham, WA.

To The Family, I want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. I also want to share the comfort of John 5:28,29 where we are promised that those who have fallen asleep in death have the hope of receiving a “resurrection” back to life. Life on an earth restored to a beautiful paradise. Psalms 37:11 says, “The meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.” While we await that wonderful time please find comfort in these promises. www.JW.org

  4. To my dear kind, and loving Uncle Robert. You were a big peace of everyone of our hearts, and we were so lucky to have such a special uncle like you. from the time I can remember you always had a smile on your face always loving and caring to everyone. We were so lucky to have you be there and watch us nieces and nephews grow, as well as your great nieces and nephews. Desiree, Conner, Alexa, Ryder, Tanner, Hailey, and little willow. You showed us all equal love like a family should have and I’m happy that my kids got a peace of that from you. I miss the talks you and I shared on our walks with your dog. and other things like smashing pop cans, getting wood to you being a goof trying to scare me with dead mice you would take out of the house, to the worm milk or hot cocoa and cookies grandma would make us… I’m really going to miss you my loving uncle you were my best friend and the best uncle ever and I am happy that god gave you to us we were all lucky I love you and miss you….
