Obituary

Beloved husband of Van Buchanan, father of Linda Lucier, Lori Mowbray and Steven Bosley, honoured to have been step-father to Amy Gibson, grandfather to David and Dan, Rachel & Melanie, Jacob and Sara and great-grandfather to James, died peacefully on January 9 at 3:30 a.m. in Bellingham WA.

Bob had a wonderful life, served in WW2, was an educated and interesting man who succeeded in his chosen career in business, pursued his love of sports, stamp collecting, duplicate bridge, collecting fine wines, fine dining, and spending time with family and friends.

In 1996 at a bridge tournament in Penticton BC he met the love of his life, Van, a Canadian woman. They became life partners, travelled extensively, played hundreds of games of bridge, enjoyed many sips of fine wine and many wonderful meals. Bob and Van married on Nov 10, 2013 surrounded by loving family and friends.

Bob was embraced by Van’s family, her three daughters Rosemarie, Katherine, Christine, their husbands, grandchildren Eric & Ursa and their families, travelled widely with Amy & Zack and with Christine & Doug. Bob was embraced by Van’s family who will miss him greatly.

Bob had a wide circle of friends, both in Bellingham and in Victoria BC, particularly Gay Parrish and Jay Brandt in Bellingham, who supported him unfailingly through some challenging times with his health, and with whom Bob & Van shared many good times, usually involving wine and food.

A Memorial Bridge Game in his honour will be held on Friday, February 12 at the Bellingham Sectional Bridge Tournament at the Northwood Hall, 3249 Northwest Avenue, Bellingham WA, 360 – 676 – 9066, at 1:00 pm.

I am sorry for your loss. It is difficult to deal with the loss of someone you love. 2 Corinthians 1:3,4 reminds us that God is always there to comfort us. I pray this helps you and your family.

  2. Van, my sincere condolences on the loss of your husband. Such a shock to see your name and under such sad circumstances. My love and best wishes go out to you. Your friend Josephine

I was so shocked and sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. When I moved into my house 3 1/2 years ago, Bob was the first neighbor I met. Such a sweet man. I enjoyed having chats out in the yard with him. I will miss having him for a neighbor.
