Obituary

Robert Parker Sweeney, 86, passed away peacefully at his home March 13, 2015 following a brief illness. He was born July 17, 1928 in Bellingham to Bert and Verne Sweeney. He was a “big hearted” man who lived a full life.
He graduated from Bellingham High School in the class of 1946. Bob served bravely in battle while in the 179th infantry during the Korean War. After returning from the war and while still enlisted, he was introduced to Pearl White on a blind date. They were happily married for over 60 years until Pearl’s passing in August 2014.
For many years he was an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church serving in many capacities. He was an avid motorcyclist, member and past president of the Mt. Baker Motorcycle Club.
After retiring as a well respected supervisor from Gai’s Bakery in 1989, he and Pearl spent their time traveling either by RV or on bus tours and saw many parts of the country. They especially loved to attend spring training with the Mariners. In later years, they enjoyed their time with the mall walkers and visiting with other friends and neighbors. Their greatest joy came from spending time with their children and grandchildren.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Pearl and his brother and sister-in-law Bill and Lorna Sweeney.
He is survived by daughter Shawn (Todd Wong), son Tim (Jannia), and grandchildren Hannah and Parker Wong. He will also be missed but fondly remembered by his “adopted daughter” Nancy Coy along with many other relatives and friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday March 18 at 1:30pm at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bob’s memory to Whatcom Hospice.
