Obituary

Robert Alexander Farkas, “Bob” 90, born July 15, 1924 in the Bronx, NY, passed away on November 13, 2014 in Claremont, CA. Bob was a graduate of the academically prestigious Townsend Harris High School, and later the College of the City of New York. Married for 48 years to Leaine “Lee” Farkas.
Bob had vivid memories of the Great Depression including the Hindenburg flying over New York (shortly before the disaster). He was a medic in the 78th Army Division in WWII. Bob landed in France following the allied invasion of Normandy and moved with the front lines until the conclusion of the war. Upon returning, he traveled extensively for business and ultimately settled in Southern California becoming a restaurateur. Later he worked through his retirement years for the USPS which he loved and where he had many good friends.
Bob was a great lover of books and a gardener specializing in desert plants and citrus trees. He traveled with his wife Lee throughout Europe, the Mediterranean, and China. He loved his family and friends, acquaintances, stories and jokes and was a supporter of many charities, especially the American Cancer Society in memory of his wife Lee.
Bob is survived by son George Farkas (Fay) of Bellingham, and Daughter Amy Farkas Joshua (Donald) of Las Vegas, NV, and Nephews Lee Nagel (Eva) of Saratoga, NY, and Phillip Durst (Sarah) of Austin, TX and a large extended family.
A Graveside Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 5th at Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery adjoining Bayview Cemetery.

  1. Amy says:

You are so very loved and cherished, dad. I mouth the words “I love you” many times a day, as you and I often did. Those words will forever remain in my heart.
