Obituary

Our son, brother and friend, Ramon Marcus Garcia, passed away early Sunday morning. He was just 21.
In the short 21 years the Lord gave Marcus to us, he was surrounded by an avalanche of love – a mother and father who adored and cherished him and encouraged him to live a full life. He was blessed with a huge family that gave him unwavering love and devotion. Marcus had an immense love of life, adventure, travel and beautiful music. There are few persons that have been so blessed as to have been loved by so many. He returned that love with a willing vulnerability. He played the guitar beautifully not only for himself, but for young people for whom he had immense compassion.
Marcus saw sharks and manta rays diving underwater, Incan ruins at Machu Picchu, Mayan ruins in Mexico, paddled a dugout canoe in the Amazon, saw California from the top of Mt. Whitney, and attended the Canucks Game 7 after-party in Vancouver. He saw Peru, Spain, Chile, Mexico, Hawaii; he loved Montreal. Marcus taught English in Peru where he was known as Teacha, and played guitar for special needs kids in Young Life, and had just begun a new position caring for disabled young adults.
He attended Whatcom Community College and earned his Associates degree before leaving Bellingham to teach in Cusco, Peru. He was excited to be Western Washington Universitys newest student when he returned from Peru. In his short life, he had seen and researched lovely, beautiful things. He also saw injustices in the world which inspired him to want a career in photojournalism he had the courage to shed light on those injustices and go where few have the courage to go.
Marcus had a wonderful swagger and an infectious smile he shared generously, particularly while working at Boundary Bay, where he had worked for years for Janet and with the Boundary crew.
Marcus lived a great, short life and was a very happy young man but, most of all, Marcus loved to crack us up and make us laugh; just happy to be around him.
He is survived by his wonderful, loving mother, Wendy Moye. Few could bring a smile to Marcus face quicker than his two lovely sisters, Rachel and Alexandra. He also leaves his father, Ramon Garcia, who loved him more than life itself. He also leaves behind his unofficial brother and sister, Forrest and Brittany, as well as his crazy dog Maggie.
Marcus was blessed with a family that does not end there. He has a loving stepfamily, his stepdad, Marvin, siblings Lauren, Marvin and Mallory. In August, his sister, Rachel would officially make the Bartees a part of our family (as they have been for nineteen years) as she marries Alec. He also leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins around the country and friends from all corners of the globe.
