Obituary

Patrick Pancoast, father of Scott Pancoast and Michael Pancoast passed away Friday, June 3, 2022. He was a man of great character, a gentle soul, and a perfect example of how to forgive and accept others.

Pat was born in Boise Idaho moving to the Bellingham area as a child, with his mother Charlotte and father Albert. Pat’s father, Albert, died suddenly in 1950, His Mother later married to Robert Layzell.    The marriage brought Pat two brothers, Richard and Tom Layzell.  Pat graduated from Bellingham High School (class of 58) where he earned letters in football, basketball, and track. Pat went on to graduate from Stanford University with a degree in Economics, and then received a commission in the U.S. Navy. He retired from the Navy after 10 years as a Lieutenant Commander due to a debilitating injury. While in the Navy he obtained a Masters Degree in Management from the Naval Post Graduate School. Pat retired back to Bellingham, where he earned a 3rd degree from Western Washington University in Accounting.

Pat was active in the local business community, working with several businesses in the Bellingham area. Pat gave back to the community working with several charities for the rights of the disabled in Washington State.  Pat is survived by his two sons, Scott and Michael Pancoast, 4 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and his life companion Margaret Melton, who all will miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at his home in Bellingham at 2pm Monday June 13th.

  1. He will live on in our hearts. Pat was a true example of courage and compassion.

  2. Patrick’s parents were my great aunt and uncle. My grandmother,Mildred Pancoast Borchardt, was his father’s sister. My mother Jean Borchardt Miller is now 97 and remembers spending time with Patrick after his father died. I do not know any of my Pancoast relatives. Condolences to his family.
