Obituary
Monte L. Nieuwendorp, age 60, passed away on Thurs. Nov. 19, 2020. Monte was born June 18th, 1960 in Bellingham Washington and grew up in Whatcom County. He graduated from Meridian High School in 1980. He was a beloved Father, Grandfather, Brother, Nephew, Uncle, Son and Friend.
Monte worked for Sanitary Service Company for over 20 years. He was a lover of car shows, motorcycles, hot rods, and old school Rock n’ Roll. He was a member of the Mount Baker Motorcycle Club for years and had endless stories of Thursday nights spent at the racetrack with his kids. You could often find Monte in his shop toying with cars and listening to the radio.
Monte was a friend to all. He had a contagious heart and the warmest of smiles. His door was always open for anyone in need. Monte never let you leave without letting you know how important you are and what you meant to him. Monte loved his kids more than anything.
He was proceeded in death by his Son Axl Markusen-Nieuwendorp, Mother Connie Nieuwendorp, Brother Troy Nieuwendorp, Grandma Elaine Crabtree AKA ‘Unclemama’, and Aunt Billie Crabtree.
He is survived and missed by his children: Brock Nieuwendorp, Amber Horn, and Jesse Nieuwendorp, along with three children he raised as his own, Jordan (Penina) Craig, Amanda (Garrett) Craig and David Craig. By his Grandchildren Michael, Cooper, Melanie and Macie, his Sister Mona Wilson, Niece Amy (Ryan) Wilson and Nephew Ryan (Bailey) Wilson, Great Nieces Olive Wilson and Winnie Wilson, Uncle John (Pam) Crabtree, Brother-in-law Tim Wilson, Father Rich (Carol) Nieuwendorp, and many other relatives.
A Celebration of Life will be held later when we can all gather together again. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting for donations to be made to The Monte Nieuwendorp Memorial Donation Fund to help with final expenses. Donations can be made at any local WECU location in the name of his sister, Mona Wilson.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Greenacres Memorial Park – 5700 Northwest Dr. Ferndale, WA. A reception will follow. You are all invited to come as you are; Carhartts and boots are most welcome.

I never met a nicer guy than Monty. His smile made me smile whenever I was around him. An example to live by. I’ll miss running into you Monte.

Monte had the biggest smile and hug to greet everyone he saw. He would go out iof his way to help a friend. He was always ready for a good time and I have plenty of memories of them as we went to do many high school dances together. We would cruise around town listening to Supertramp, The Cars, Boston and more. I would stop by and help him when he worked at the car wash in Bellingham and the detailing shop on State St. He would stop by and visit me when I worked at Jack’s Drive Inn. He would even let me drive his blue Camaro. I worked with his Aunt Billie and sister Mona at Galkenkamp Shoe Store. His family was so kind and loving and always welcomed me to every family gathering. To know Monte was to know kindness, fun and adventure. Monte handled every tragedy and heartache that life brought him with grace. He had a tender heart and would always stop by and check on my brother when he filled in on a different route when he worked at SSC. Everybody loved Monte. I will remember the good times we shared and his big kind heart and smile. My prayers are with his children, family and loved ones.

I remember Monte from the time he was a little boy and held the banner for my baton Corp, Bellingham Royalettes, in all the Blossom Time parades. He was the sweetest little boy and grew up to be a kind young man. Even 50 years later whenever I ran into him he always took the time to stop and talk to me. My condolences go out to Mona and his family during this sorrowful time. Hopefully the good memories you share will help you get through the difficult days ahead. Monte will be missed by many. Nancie
