Obituary

Merril D. Nolan, age 70, passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2016. He was born on June 14, 1946 in Bellingham, Washington to Harris and Hilda Nolan.

Merril enjoyed golfing, bowling, fishing, playing slots at the casino, watching his grandchildren play sports and collecting golf balls. Merril and his wife Joanne (Barr) Nolan, married 51 years ago on March 26, 1965 at the United Church in Ferndale, Washington.
He retired from Alcoa Intalco Works after 36 years of service. He served as a volunteer firefighter for Whatcom County Fire District 7 for 20 years. A sports fan all around, he supported his favorite teams such as the Mariners, Seahawks and Washington State Cougars.

He is survived by his wife Joanne Nolan, his sons Craig (Amy) Nolan, Darin (Kelly) Nolan; grandchildren Chad (Megan) Nolan, Austin Nolan, Kiana Nolan, Nick Nolan, Zach Nolan, Gunner Nolan; great-grandson CJ Nolan; sisters Pat (Russ) Densmore, Mary Jett, Rosalie (Dean) Herrin, Preceded in death by his parents Harris & Hilda Nolan and brother Gerald (Jan) Nolan.

At Merril’s request there will be no service. His urn will be place privately at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Whatcom Hospice House, 2806 Douglas Ave., Bellingham, WA 98225

    So sorry to hear of Merril’s passing. I had not seen him since he was a young boy in Ferndale when Cloyd and I made a trip there. He reminds me of Cloyd. It is hard going through the grieving process and I will be thinking of Joanne and the family. Love, Carol Nolan
