Obituary

Maryn Jean Reid passed away December 1, 2015. She was born October 11, 1920. She married Darrell K. Reid on May 22, 1943. After mom graduated from Bellingham High School in 1939, where she was a song leader, she went on to be a telephone operator with Bell Telephone during the war. She was a supervisor and living at the Camlin Hotel in downtown Seattle. Maryn demonstrated for Darigold, then started a retail career with J.C. Penneys and The Golden Rule, from where she retired in age 62.
After the war, mom and dad joined the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp., mom in the women’s marching drill team and dad was a drummer. Mom and dad helped start the Carousel Dance Club at the Crystal Ballroom at the Leopold Hotel. She was a member of the Wheel and Keel Boating Club, dad was commodore and referred to her as his “bride.” They were Boating Family of the year in 1976.
She is preceded in death by her husband Darrell (2011), her parents Arthur and Letha Doty, sister and brother-in-law Elaine and Howard Shumway, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Nancy Doty, and brother-in-law Don McLeod. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Vicky Reid, son Scott Reid, nieces Kim (Jerry) Bonsen, Elizabeth (Kelly) Brown, Jennifer (Fred) Baxter, and Mary Sue McLeod, nephews Ladd (Paige) Shumway and Chris McLeod, many loving great-nieces and nephews, and her sister-in-law Beverly McLeod.
Mom and dad had many adventures in their lives. Lake Samish vacation home, then onto boating the San Juan’s into the Canadian Gulf Islands, motor homing with the Land Cruisers and the Family Motor Coach Association, then settling into winter at Sungate R.V. Park in Cathedral City, CA. These adventures left them with lifelong friends who were so dear to her. Mom loved to laugh, she loved her flowers, she loved happy hours, and she loved her hair (thank you Gary and Bonnie). She loved her home in Birch Bay Village and she loved WSU Cougars, “go Cougs!” She loved us, and she so loved her God given grandchildren Shane and Mia.
There will be a private interment at Greenacres Memorial park. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Summer of 2016.
Memorials may be made in Maryn’s name to Whatcom Hospice.

To The Family, I want to express my deepest sympathy for your loss. I also want to share the comfort of John 5:28,29 where we are promised that those who have fallen asleep in death have the hope of receiving a “resurrection” back to life. Life on an earth restored to a beautiful paradise. Psalms 37:11 says, “The meek ones themselves will possess the earth, and they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.” While we await that wonderful time please find comfort in these promises. www.JW.org
