Obituary

Mary Jane Lawrence Johnson was the last surviving child of Peter and Madeline Lawrence. She married Verne Johnson on August 30, 1953, in Lummi, at St. Joachim Catholic Church. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2018. She was a fisherwoman since she was about 7 years old. Mary was a loving, caring, humble, God loving, faithful, forgiving, gentle, generous, confident, and reliable woman. She will be remembered for her smile, laugh, humor, faith, family history stories, and her resilience in life’s hardships. Mary was an amazing mother and role model.  Her favorite activities included going to Mariner games, and word search puzzles, going to the Hilltop for dinner, shopping at the Salvation Army, movie night, getting her nails done, going to the movie theater, reading books and visiting with family.

She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Johnson, Carol Norcross and Victoria Dillion; sons David Johnson and Richard Johnson; countless foster/adopted children; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Verne Johnson Sr; son Verne “Sonny” Johnson Jr. and daughter Teresa Johnson. Memorials may be made to St. Joachim Catholic Church, c/o St. Joseph Catholic Church,  5781 Hendrickson Ave, Ferndale, WA 98248. A prayer service will be Thursday, October 3, at 6:00pm.
