Obituary

Loy Lovelace, age 80, passed away on March 2, 2013 in Bellingham, WA. He was born to Charles and Alta Lovelace in Kingfisher, OK on July 10, 1932. Loy married Ruth DeNise in 1956. Loy graduated from Nooksack High School in 1952 before joining the U.S. Air Force, where he served honorably for four years during the Korean War. After his service, Loy attended Western Washington University where he graduated in 1959. He was one of the main frame computer pioneers with AmFab and Uniflite. After retiring, Loy formed a general contracting company to indulge his love for building.
One of Loy’s greatest passions was sailing, which he indulged by crewing in the Wednesday Night Yacht Club races, as well as sailing on his own boat with his family. He enjoyed volunteering to teach others about boating safety as a Past Commander of the Bellingham Power Squadron. Loy was a long time member of the First Congregational Church and volunteered regularly at the Bellingham Food Bank.
Loy is survived by two brothers, Don C. Lovelace of Anchorage and Tom Lovelace of Bellingham, as well as his wife, Ruth, two daughters, Denise Funk and Stacy James (husband Henry), and grandchildren Brian Funk, Amber James, Alyssa James and B.J. James.
The family would like to thank Peace Health Memory Wellness Program and Bellingham Health Care and Rehabilitation Services for the support, care and consideration they showed Loy and his family during his illness.
A celebration of Loy’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church of Bellingham on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Bellingham Food Bank. Please share memories at www.farewelltributes.com

Thinking about you and praying for your comfort and peace. Loy was an amazing man – I was just remembering those weeks that Gary and I took the power squadron course that he was teaching and the patience and humor he gifted to us. I will miss him too very much.

To the loving Family & Friends of Loy Dean, may I offer my sympathy at this difficult time. You along with many others will surely miss him & grieve your loss.Hopefully you will be comforted by these Bible Verses that follow: Psalms36:7 “HOW PRECIOUS YOUR LOVING-KINDNESS IS O GOD! AND IN THE SHADOW OF YOUR WINGS THE SONS OF MEN THEMSELVES TAKE REFUGE, FOR WITH YOU IS THE SOURCE OF LIFE”

  3. To Ruth and Family: So sorry for your loss and I hope you find comfort as you celebrate the memories.
