Obituary

Lisa was born in Seattle, WA, to Michelle Opel and Lawrence Bolson. She was a gardener, activist, lover of nature and a musician. In the 90’s, she was introduced as “Patty Melt” in the retro-rock band “Clambake”. Lisa loved, supported and was a patron of all genres of music, theater and the arts. She loved to go to concerts and festivals, was giving and had a passion for life. She helped others through their struggles and then needed help herself. A big thanks to all that supported her.

Lisa loved all things vintage, studied Native American culture and helped her mother and sister create “Prudent Penny” and later “With Wild Abandon.” She also worked at “Aladdin’s Antiques” and had a vast knowledge of antiques and music. Lisa moved to Seattle for a while and surrounded herself with loving like-minded friends to work and play with. We were lucky enough to have her move back to Bellingham where she thrived for many years. She has left behind a great deal of friends, both in Seattle and Bellingham.

Lisa was a hard worker and most recently worked for Habitat for Humanity, which was in line with her beliefs of helping others. She also worked with her sister at Aladdin’s Antiques and Records, where her knowledge of antiques, collectibles and music helped immensely. Lisa enjoyed cooking, gardening and being in nature. She liked to be fit and active and commuted to work by bicycle. Lisa was a beautiful free spirit: may her spirit soar free. The life she lived is an inspiration to those who got to know and love her.

She was preceded in death by her uncle Bruce Opel. She is survived by her mother Michelle Opel, sister Lainie Bolson, father figure Dan Crawford, father Larry and stepmom Barb, two stepbrothers: Ian (Sarah), Nigel (Brynne), and nieces Shay, Morgan and Haley. A Memorial Service will take place in February; the date is to be determined.

  1. Beautiful, Shining Lisa! Bellingham has lost a wonderful sister. The last time I visited with you, was shortly after my mother died. We had previously ran into each other many times, at all the local places; the bank, the grocery store, the Antique Mall, and my favorite….the library. There, we would exchange good movie reviews and discuss Sam Elliott’s mustache. But on this day, you noticed my grief and need for a talk. You were so kind, so brave, and so comforting. Your care and compassion helped carry me through. How I wish I could have told you, Thank You.
Maybe in the summer breeze, maybe in the soft rain, maybe in the fresh green of spring, you will know.

Lisa could make a bad day wonderful with just her smile, soar high sweet lady, and thank you for the last message I passed it on.

  3. To LisaThe loss of seeing your smiling face and the joy of life in your eyes has now been taken from us! Lisa: you shared many stories with me as your regular bus driver from Fairhaven to downtown….. I will always remember those. For my wife (Michelle) and I we will will miss you for your willingness to listen to us and help us through the years at Aladdin’s and then recently at Habitat For Humanity. Your willingness to help people was always there and appreciated!

Your pain in the loss of your beloved sister is more than we can understand. Our sorrow and love is all we can give.
We believe Lisa has left a lot of hearts and souls touched by her selfless giving. Her helping of those in need with their struggles and her own trials in life are an example to us all!
    With Love and sadness:

Lisa, I’ll miss you. I enjoyed seeing you in many of my favorite places to shop. I’ll miss your laugh . My condolences to the family.

  5. Lisa and I were friends when she lived in Seattle during the early ’70s. Her house was a 2nd home to many of us, where we spent much of our time hanging out together. Lisa was always positive and energetic, and we had many fun times together! We actually did a lot of crazy “middle-schooler” stuff; which left lasting memories. When she moved to Bellingham, several of us took the Greyhound to Bellingham to visit her because we missed her so much. There are so many childhood memories coming to my mind. I send my love and sympathy to her family.
