Obituary

On April 6, 2013, Linda Suzanne Stewart passed away at Virgina Mason Hospital in Seattle after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Linda was born on August 26, 1951 to Tom and Mary Stewart in Bellingham, WA. Linda graduated from Sehome High School in 1969, then from UW nursing school in 1973. Linda lived to be a nurse and loved her job. She started her nursing career at Shuksan Nursing Home at the age of 15.

Linda specialized in OB care, which took her from Bellingham, WA to Santa Rosa, CA, Sedro Woolley, WA, Beaumont, TX, Visalia, CA, and Ellensburg, WA. Along the way, she touched the lives of so many people, keeping in contact with them through the years. She was a great leader and took part in community services. While in California, Linda earned her Masters Degree from the University of Phoenix. She became part of the administration team while in Texas, and many of her employees regarded her as a great boss.

Linda loved her family and spending time with them, which was one reason she relocated to Ellensburg. She was always very supportive of her family and even inspired her niece, Amy, to become a nurse. Linda is survived by her mother Mary (Bill) Brough; brother Ron (Juile) Stewart; nieces Amy (Merritt) Washburn, and Alli (Tyler) Mitchell; nephew Tim (Angela) Stewart, and seven grand-nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed.

  1. Linda was my boss for many years at KD and she was a great one! Her sense of humor was fun. She was very supportive, also. I’m glad she was near her famillyl for her last years. See you in heaven, Linda!

  2. I remember the day Linda walked on to the OB unit at Kaweah Delta. Soon after her arrival she offered me the position of her Assistant Manager. We had great fun opening the 10 Bed NICU and the First Family Birth Center. She mentored me in my career as I moved onward. I will never forget our weekly Friday out to dinners spanning her time in Visalia. We shared family talk, Alli’s Volleyball games and holidays when she wasn’t in Bellingham. We shared laughter, tears, hugs and a friendship I will never forget.

  3. Linda was a very special friend. She was our Director of Social Events, coordinating birthday lunches, special occasions, and monthly lunches for the nursing directors at Kaweah off site. She was very independent and very strong. She did allow us to mother her a little” during her chemo and radiation. She loved being a nursr, loved her family, and her dogs. We loved her and will carry her memory with us forever.

I worked with Linda at Kaweah Delta in Visalia for many years. She was a wonderful person and nurse leader. She was always the social chairman of our group, planning birthday surprises, lunches, get-togethers and making sure everyone felt suported and appreciated. Linda made a difference in the lives of many patients, families and staff members. She made a positive difference in my life and I am forever grateful for her friendship. The world has lost a special person but she left behind a lot of kindness.

  5. I worked with Linda at Kaweah’ As a new manager to the hospital, Linda made sure I was welcomed. She was always there when I needed to share and get advice. I will always treasure that support and the social activities that she planned for the group. We have kept in touch through the years and I value her friendship. She will remain in my thoughts always.
