Obituary

Leona “Lee” M. Flaherty, age 94, of Ferndale, WA, passed away in Bellingham at the Mt. Baker Care Center on Thursday, August 19, 2021.

She was born in Wardner, B.C. on April 13, 1927. By happenstance, she met the love of her life, Wayne Flaherty, in 1952 on the dance floor in Ferndale while on a trip to the States with her co-workers. She spent most of her career working for the Ferndale School District, starting in 1962, and retiring after more than 30 years. Her final position was Accounting Technician.

Leona is predeceased by her husband, Wayne Flaherty, in 2018. Her family would like to thank all the people that supported her in many ways, including the many friends, relatives, caregivers, support staff and therapists that kept her company and made her smile. Her relationships with everyone and the kindness everyone showed meant the world to her. She will forever be with us in our hearts and minds.

A graveside service will be held Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA.
