Laura Barbara Hassebrock

Laura Kinnischtzke Hassebrock was born on February 3, 1913 in Glen Ullin, ND, and at the age of 99 passed away peacefully in her sleep early in the morning, July 11, 2012, at her daughters home in Kirkland, WA.

The seventh of 13 children, Laura was born at home, in the house built by her parents on the familys 160 acre homestead. Growing up, she and her siblings worked on the family farm but also found time to play cards, turn the chicken coop into a playhouse, and enjoy music together. Laura played the organ and violin. In 1933, Laura and Carl were married and began their family. As their family grew and had families of their own, she never seemed at a loss for space for visitors to sleep, homemade food to share, or card games to play.
Laura instilled an exceptional sense of family importance and involvement throughout our very extended family, and for that we will all be forever grateful.

She will be missed greatly by her children, Glorian (Bob) Hubbard of Ojai, CA; daughter-in-law, Carol Hassebrock Haveman (Gary) of Lynden, WA; Glenn (Betty) Hassebrock of Port Orchard, WA; Bruce Hassebrock of Bellingham, WA; Joyce Petterson of Kirkland, WA; and Jim (Bobbie) Hassebrock of Port Orchard, WA; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and their families, as well as many other family and friends. Laura is also survived by a brother, Werner Kinnischtzke of Tappan, ND and twin sisters, Renata Swackhamer of Bremerton, WA and Tekla Holt of Gig Harbor, WA.
She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 70 years, Carl Hassebrock; her son, Jerry Hassebrock; son-in-law, Jack Petterson; and daughter-in-law, Marie Hassebrock.
