Obituary

Larry lost his 7-month battle with Stage 4 brain cancer on August 7 and passed away peacefully in his home. He was born in Bellingham to Oswald and Mary Olsen. He attended shop classes at BTC then served in the army in Vietnam from 1965-67 and Reserves until ‘71. He worked at Intalco and ARCO (BP) for 27 years. He was blessed with early retirement in 1999. His passion was being part of the Whatcom 4-Wheelers Jeep Club and Search & Rescue 4×4 for many years.

He married Jeanie Hope Poyner in 1975 and raised their family of four daughters. Larry enjoyed camping, Arizona for the winter, hunting, golfing, libations, family and friends gatherings and traveling in his motorhome, especially with all the grandchildren. His later love was his Harley Davidson motorcycle, riding with his wife and friends. He was a determined man of integerity who had a heart of gold. A loving son, husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed as heaven gained an angel.

He was preceded in death by his father Ozzy Olsen, step-father Clarence Vanderhage, brother- in-law Jeff Smith and nephew Brandon Intong. He is survived by his mother, Mary (Olsen) Vanderhage, loving wife of 42 years Jeanie, and his four daughters: Tammie Lagerwey (Micah), Tracy Pittman (Darryl), Heather Poyner-Holcroft (Mark), & Holly Dilorenzo (Brandon); grandchildren: Austin, Nathan (Kilie), Dalton, Kayla, Tarah, Josiah, Chase, Atlanta, Harper, Everly; and great-grandson Braxton; brother Tom (Marty), sister Bonnie and many beloved nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on August 19 at 4:00 at the home of Larry and Jeanie Olsen (492 E. Laurel Road, Bellingham, WA).
