Obituary

Judith L Mellick (Judi), loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and close friends on Saturday the 24th of June at St. Joseph Hospital. Judi was born November 23, 1948 to Alfred and Louise Anderson and was the oldest of three children. She graduated from Mount Baker High School in 1967. She married her high school sweetheart, Keith Mellick, on June 16, 1967. Judi loved children and she and Keith opened their home to foster children shortly after their marriage. She went on to have a daycare in their home for 20 years and care for many children along the way. She loved every one. Judi went on to work at Alpha Technologies and eventually became a supervisor there; she loved the job and loved her coworkers even more.

Judi enjoyed being with family and was a devoted and loyal friend. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, having holiday gatherings and going to the casino. She was a lover of animals and was never without one or more pets in her home. She supported animal rescue and loved her pets with all her heart.

Judi and Keith just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. It is an accomplishment that they were both proud of. She loved Keith (and he, her) deeply. They worked every day at their marriage and it is a testament to what hard work, love and respect can do.

Judi was preceded in death by her dad and mom, Alfred and Louise Anderson, and her brother Thomas Anderson. She is survived by her husband, Keith, daughters Cherie (Jeff) Payne and Jennifer Vandalen; grandchildren Tyler and Alex Payne and Jordyn, Jadyn and Marcus Vandalen; brother Wade (Wanita) Anderson; nieces and nephew April (Frank) Castenada, Gina (Nate) Langstraat, Lindsey (Mike) Simmons, Josh Anderson and Jamie (Joe) Torres.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 8 at 12:00 pm at Greenwood Cemetery (605 E. Wiser Lake Rd., Lynden) with a reception to celebrate Judi’s life immediately following at 6048 West Hemmi Place, Bellingham, WA 98226.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Judi’s name to The Villalobos Rescue Center (P.O. Box 771127, New Orleans, LA. 70177) and Happy Tails Happy Homes (P.O. Box 28752, Bellingham WA 98228).

I’m sure going to miss Judi.
I best remember Judi as holding court at her desk at Alpha, where many of us came by to visit with her every day. She had the best stories…often sharing about her daughters, her dogs, her family, her cancer, her grandchildren, her travels, her new wigs, and of course her Keith. She was a great leader and had a special knack for dealing with all the different personalities in the building. She had no problem telling you her opinion yet she cared deeply for her friends and let them know it. She was the best person to be on your side.

I loved our Friday lunch group and am thankful we still got together for lunches long after leaving Alpha. A night out at the Reef was always made better running into Judi & Keith. I’ve never met a luckier person at the slots.

So thankful you are no longer suffering. Rest in peace, my friend.

  3. She was one of a kind. When all our kids were young we made many memories. She always had her smile. She will be missed gone way to soon.

  4. My thoughts & prayers are with Judi’s family at this time. May your Faith, Family, Friends, & Many Happy Memories help you in the days to come. You have a Very Special Guardian Angel looking down on you 24/7!!!! I worked with Judi at Alpha for many years. The last few as my sup. We had our good days & our bad days. With lots of talking about her family, her favorite subject to chat about.!!!! It hard to believe Mr C come back after so many years. She was my person I bragged about beating cancer!! Cancer Sucks. Will be thinking of her a lot July 14 at our ” Relay for Life ” around Bellingham lib. Come down & make a sack to honor our friend. I know she is looking down on us 24/7!!! Take Care, I Care!! R.I.P. Judi

I enjoyed Judy’s company when we were neighbors many years ago. Walks and large glasses of lemon iced tea. Keith and Cherie, you have my heartfelt prayers and love. Let God comfort you as you walk through your life with her spirit.
