Jan, Jennifer, Patrick, and Lela, It was a pleasure to met Joe last spring when I visited Washington. He seemed witty and had lots of stories to share in my brief meeting with him at that time. I got to know him more this year when he made two trips to Ohio and had looked forward to getting to know him more. I am so sorry for your loss.

Joe was a special man who encouraged our son in his Boy Scout journey to Eagle Scout. We will always be thankful for Joe’s encouragement and influence in Isaac’s life!

Mr. Hugill was one of our Social Science department chairpersons during his tenure at Granger Jr. High School. Another teacher and I were at a district in-service in August discussing a unit and recalled how he might have approached it. She had not heard from him in few years and decided to try to locate him online. I was crestfallen to hear the news of his passing. We missed his enthusiasm as a World Cultures and AVID teacher and his support as a colleague and friend when he retired. We are saddened by the news but hold him in our memories (as I am sure others do also) as a member of our band of teachers. Please accept my condolences.

Joe was a wonderful teacher that inspired students to play chess. These students would never have even thought of picking up a chess piece, but they flocked to his room to use their brains in a strategic way every day at lunchtime. We missed Joe when he left Granger and are sorry for his passing. God Bless You Joe.

Joe and I were Amherst High School friends. I remained in the Amherst area and Joe went off to the West. I was looking forward to seeing Joe at a future reunion. Please accept my condolences.
