Obituary

Inis May (Drake) Jaquish, 102, of Bellingham, Washington, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 2, 2022, while in loving care of Evergreen Hospice.

Inis was born on April 30, 1919, in Marietta Township, Crawford County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charley and Edna (Culver) Drake.

In 1939, she married Theron Orin Jaquish in Dubuque, Iowa. In 1963, Inis and Theron moved with two youngest sons from Beloit, Wisconsin to Bellingham, Washington. Their daughter had already moved to California and their eldest son remained in Wisconsin to attend college after returning from military service. Inis was a devoted wife, homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Inis had many activities during her life and always kept herself busy. She volunteered, quilted, collected agates and polished them, made jewelry, dried flowers for homemade cards, made soaps, and kept an impressive doll collection. Inis took great joy in sending thoughtful birthday and Christmas cards to all of her family, including nieces, nephews, and friends. Inis was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, and church. She was a devoted member of the Garden Street Methodist Church. Inis will be remembered most for her tremendous adoration for her family. Her love has forever shaped those closest to her. She gave unconditional love. Our world will be forever changed.

She leaves her daughter Fern I (Jaquish) Shaffer and husband Douglas H Shaffer; son Rod T Jaquish; son Lannie W Jaquish and spouse Robin (Butler) Jaquish; and son Jeffrey L Jaquish and spouse Linda (Hedman) Jaquish; Grand Daughters Lisa (Van Horn) Beckrich, Channon Jaquish, and Joslin (Jaquish) Starkey; Grandsons Bret Van Horn, Bryan Jaquish, Grant Jaquish, Matthew Jaquish, and Michael Jaquish; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Theron Jaquish; and brothers, Lyle, Lemoyne, Leland, Vilas, and Ivan Drake.

Her family wishes to thank the supportive community of Deer Run Terrace Apartments in Bellingham, Washington, where Inis lived independently until she was 101 years old.

Inis’s final resting place is at Bayview Cemetery in Bellingham.

  1. To the Jaquish family. I want to express my condolences to the entire family. Inis was my faithful friend ever since we met at Garden St. UMC when my family moved to Bellingham from Alaska in 1990. She was one of the first people to greet us and we became fast friends forever. We shared many happy hours,. Little pizzas at Roundtable, veggies from Jeff’s garden which were wonderful. I will miss her so much and truly admired her for her devotion to family and friends. I feel truly blessed to have shared her with you and l send love to all.
