Obituary

Guy Fredrick Williams, 80, died peacefully Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at St. Joseph Hospital. He was born February 8, 1936, in Whitewater, Colorado. In 1939 his family moved to Alger, WA, where they resided on the Wood Road until they relocated to Bellingham in 1952. After arriving in Bellingham, Guy worked for Western Union delivering telegrams, including singing telegrams. He then worked for Medcalf Dairy, both as a delivery man and in the dairy itself. After that, Guy became a longshoreman with the ILWU Local 7, and retired after 36 years. For many of those years, he was the union representative, which included travel to Mexico. Guy’s service in the Marine Corp Reserves earned him the ranking of Corporal and he received many awards for his sharp shooting skills. During this time, he was blessed and excited to receive daily letters written by his faithful wife Joan. This act of devotion produced a callous on her finger that she still has to this day.
Guy spent his youth logging with his father and brothers, which instilled a lifelong love and respect for the woods. Clearing land and cutting firewood were two of his favorite pass times and he spent many hours doing so alongside his son Darren. Guy had a devoted companion in his dog Tangee, who also spent many days in the woods with him, returning home each evening perched high upon the wood piled in the truck.
Guy was athletic and played tennis and football while attending both Edison School and Burlington-Edison High School. He played football for the Bellingham Bell Jets for a number of years and enjoyed watching both professional football and boxing on television. Guy was an avid swimmer and water skier, spending many summer days at local lakes entertaining his friends and family with his diving skill.
Guy had a beautiful singing voice and a love for Country Western music. Some of his family and friends most cherished moments are centered on him playing his guitar and singing his favorite songs, while obliging their requests. He was particularly known for his yodeling skills and each of his grandchildren were given multiple tips on how to develop the skill.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan Williams; son Darren and wife Kelly Williams; daughters Julie and husband Pat Pitsch, Lori and husband Phil Smith; grandchildren, Garrett and wife Cari Williams, Connor Williams, Kayla Williams, Rory and wife Traci Pitsch, Hayden Pitsch, Jetson Pitsch, Koby Smith, Savannah Smith, Dawson Smith; great-grandsons Eric Williams and Brantley Pitsch; sisters Betty Babcock, Pat Wayne, Barbara and husband Ken Bame, Rose Williams, and brother Fredrick Lee and wife Sharon Williams.
He is preceded in death by his parents Fred L. Williams and Mary Humphrey; 3 sisters, Elsie Hackworth, Clara Rinderle, Mary Lee Williams; 9 brothers, Edwin Leroy Williams, Ira Lee Williams, David Williams, Allie Williams, Charles Williams, Frankie Williams, Merl Williams, Melvin Williams and Archie Williams. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Guy was a consumate gentlrman and one of the nicest people I’ve ever known.
We met in 1957 (apx.) He worked inside at
Medcalf Dairy. My Dad had a route there and sometimes circumstances came about that Guy would drive the truck and I’d show him where the stops were.He became a
    role model to me.

Even as a young boy I’d witness he and his wife together and know they exemplified what love and marriage
    were suppose to be.

We crossed paths over the years but I moved away about fourty years ago and often wondered how he was doing. He made a lasting positive impression on me that still affects my life today.

I’m sincerely sorry for your loss and know it is huge because of who HE was. Time will heal, I’m sure you have so much good to remember.

I know of which I speak.

God bless Joan and the family.

  5. Dear Joan and Family,
My thoughts today are with you and the days, months and years ahead. I am praying for peace and comfort in Gods loving arms.

Sorrow is not an easy walk but when you know there is no more pain for your loved one and they are in a reunion with those who have gone before, it is easier to handle. Just know you are always in my prayers!
