George W. Lake passed away Thursday, July 27 at Mt. Baker Care Center with his children at his side. George was born June 1, 1919 in Chilhowee, Missouri. When he was 18, he and two friends traveled from Missouri to Oregon to work as loggers. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Sedro Woolley to log and work in a sawmill. In 1939, he came to Bellingham, where he worked in and then owned what became Lake Radio Shop. In later years, he owned Lake Construction Company. He married Eleanor A. Willison on October 14, 1942. Eleanor and George enjoyed 64 years of marriage together until Eleanor’s death in 2006.

Among George’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, electronics, and traveling. He was a voracious reader, and was particularly interested in science, American history, and world affairs. George was known for his love of his family, his sense of humor, and his deep regard for a good pie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor, and sister Margaret Hansen. (Jennifer) Lake of Kahului, Maui, Leanne (John) Morrison of Olympia, and Darlene Lake of La Crosse, Wisconsin, as well as four grandchildren, Tyler (Lorraine) Lake, Heather (Philip) Patton, David Sweeney, Amy Sweeney, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Steven, Leanne, Darlene and extended family members: Friends, near and far, are keeping you in many thoughts and prayers. May good, humorous memories bring you peace and comfort. “The heart weeps for what it has lost. The soul laughs for what it has found.” George William Lake has found his Eleanor once again. —Don Kuderer
