Obituary

Dorthy M Smith Goodell of Bellingham, WA, passed away on Saturday March 7th, 2015. One of four children, Dorthy was born in Louisville, Kentucky on July 26th, 1929 to Ray and Beatrice Roberts, who she now joins in heaven. Dorthy arrived in Whatcom County by way of train, at the age of 9 weeks old in her mother’s arms and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1949, when she married her high school beau Robert E. Smith in December. 1949 thru 1970. Dorthy rode the bus everywhere she went; she was even honored with a lifetime bus pass by the Bellingham City Transit for being the one millionth customer in the 70’s. This town she loved, especially watching the baby M’s at Civic Field and she was a true fan of the Seattle Mariners. She loved playing bingo and was well known in the bingo hall throughout Whatcom and Skagit Counties with her daughters and sister Beatrice. Dorthy is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Beatrice, two brothers Art and Ray Jr, her son Robert Earl, granddaughter Belinda, and her great-granddaughter Jessica. Dorthy is survived by her ex husband Robert E Smith and four daughters; Dianna J Anderson of Bellingham, Beverley A Smith of Ferndale, Donna Curtis and husband Randy of Gilbert, AZ, Robyn L Brown and Husband Keith of Bellingham, and 7 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces/nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Whatcom Hospice House for their loving care and give the collection of stuff animals that she loved. She was our momma, our Miss Daisy, our Aunt to some and our friend to others, a beloved grandma that we will love and cherish forever.
