Obituary

Cleo “Vern” Mowbray was born on July 27, 1935 to John and Leona Mowbray in McPherson, Kansas. After graduating from high school in Lindsborg, Kansas his service in the Army took him to Hawaii where married Fidela Dela Valdez Mowbray on November 20, 1971 in Honolulu, and between them they had six children. In Hawaii, Vern learned to love motor cross, hunting, and fishing off of the islands. A proud veteran, Vern served his country in the United States Army. He retired as Special Agent Criminal Investigator from the US Customs. Vern was active in the American Legion Post #7 the Custer Gun Club, and NRA.
Survivors include his wife, Fidela, daughters; Sandra (Brian) Ortiz of Pahoa, Hawaii, Monica A. (Ken) Unser of Bellingham, WA, and Cynthia M. Martin of Bellingham, WA, sons; Gordon P. (Brenda) Ancheta of Bellingham, WA and Michael B. (Crystal) Ancheta of Santee, CA, brothers Virgil (Jane) Mowbray of Ardmore, OK and Floyd (Dixie) Mowbray of South Haven, KS, sisters; Cleta (Vern) Snyder of New Cambria, KS and Erma Mowbray of McPherson, KS, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, John and Leona, and step-son Glen Ancheta.
Vern was such a loving, caring person. He never liked arguments and he loved his grandchildren dearly. Hunting, fishing, photography, watching car racing, reading Rifleman Magazines and the comics in the Sunday paper, and listening to music were some things he enjoyed.
A Memorial Service followed by a Graveside and Reception will be held on Saturday, June 27th at 11:00AM at Moles Farewell Tributes. Greenacres, 5700 Northwest Dr. in Ferndale.
