Obituary

On Tuesday, November 15th, 2016, following a successful afternoon of hooligan fishing on the Nooksack River with his fishing buddy Kevin Mallahan, Clark passed to heaven. Although a heart attack ended Clark’s earthly life, our happy memories of time spent with Clark will live with us always. Clark loved his wife Ann Marie and his family more than anything on the face of the earth, with the possible exception of his two magnificent poodles.
Clark was the fourth child (of five), born to William Vern Schacht and Patricia Louise Schacht, in 1959. He was born and raised in Bellingham Washington, and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1977. He later earned his degree at Everett Community College.
On December 31, 1997, Clark married the love of his life Ann Marie Gullickson. Through his marriage to Ann Marie he had the honor of forming a family and helping to raise Nicholas and Kraymer Gullickson. Clark, Ann Marie and the poodles were living happily in Mount Vernon Washington with their two adult sons living nearby at the time of Clark’s passing.
Clark was a man with calloused hands and a soft heart. He was self dependent and embraced hard work. He started and successfully operated several businesses over the years; always with integrity and character. Clark was typically the first one to receive a call for help from his family and friends, and he was always quick to respond.
Clark had so many talents, in fact, that one name never seemed to be quite sufficent for him. He was known as “Clark” to some and “Rich” to others. His closest friends might have had other names for him as well. If there was a subject matter Clark was interested in, it was only a matter of time before he became an expert on that subject – at least, that is how it seemed to all of us. Clark was a master of fishing, crabbing, clamming, shrimping, boating, building, fixing, bbq-ing, craft coffee making, fancy-dinner-serving, poodle care, poodle nutrition, and the list goes on and on.
Clark’s passing has been a complete shock to our family – one from which we will never fully recover. He was the center of our family gatherings. He was the best cook. He was the best story and joke teller. He was the most capable carpenter. He was the best at social media. He was the most opinionated – on everything. He was the most irreverant. More than anything he was very loved.
We take some comfort in knowing that Clark has been reunited with his father William Vern Schacht, his brother William Frederick Schacht and his sister Kathleen Delores Schacht. He is survived by his wife Ann Marie of Mount Vernon, sons Nicholas Gullickson (Courtney), of Seattle and Kraymer Gullickson of Bellingham. He is also survived by his mother Patricia Schacht of Bellingham, whom he loved with all his heart, sister Pamela Schacht of Everett, brother Fred Schacht (Colleen), of Bellingham, sister-in-law Jill Schacht of Oak Harbor, Ann Marie’s mother Marie Victoria of Mount Vernon, and Ann Marie’s brothers James Furtado (Shar) of Mount Vernon and Micheal Furtado (Jess) of New York. Clark was also very influential in the lives of his nieces and nephews; Gretchen Sullivan (Jamie) & daughter Ryan, Beth Reiley (Mike) & son Leo, Sarah Schacht (Guillome), Bill Schacht (Hannah) & daughters Kenzie & Ruby and son William, Jake Schacht & Josh Schacht. If you have known Clark in recent years, you also will know of his two truck-buddies, poodles Willie and Woody, who will also miss Clark greatly.
His family will host a celebration of life gathering at the Samish Island Communty Hall on Saturday November 26th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

What a beautiful tribute to clearly, a wonderful, wonderful man. How rich your lives were together! In my helplessness in knowing how to reach out to you, I just want you to know I’m praying, standing in the gap with so many others, praying ernestly that whomever you need will be guided to your side; the words you need to hear will be spoken, the gifts that will touch your heart will be given. Thinking about you constantly these past few days, and have hugged you in my heart many times. Hugs to you now, Ann Marie, and much love! Hedy

Our hearts are with all our friends in the Schacht family. May Gods peace give you comfort in this time of mourning. Rich was truly one of a kind. It was wonderful (but painful) to read the tribute to his life. To some of us he was known as Fred’s cool big brother. I regret that we will be unable to attend the tribute as we will be out of state. All our love. Kurt and Lani Swanson

  4. Ann Marie we are so sorry to hear about Clark’s passing. The Idlesse family at Birch Bay will greatly miss Clark and all the great things he did for the Association. Our condolences to you and all your family.

  5. Dear Pat,Oh, how my heart goes out to you on the loss of your son. What a big void that must be in your life, and that of all of his loved ones. So happy you can take some comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his wonderful dad, brother and sister.
I don’t know if you remember me, but I waited on you and Bill many times at Hong Kong Garden and also knew Fred and your son Bill from there also over the past many years!
Also…..you might remember in about 1979 or 1980 we bought a red velvet hanging light from you when we redecorated our big house on Meridian St. and it STAYED THERE the WHOLE 14 years we lived there and we loved it the whole time!!!!
I remember when you lost your daughter Kathleen and was so very SORRY about your loss. I thought you had great taste in names, though. I am Kathleen and my sister is Delores!! :- )
When we lived on Meridian St. we had a neighbor girl live with us for a year or two and she had Bill for a teacher when she went to the Tech School and just loved him dearly!
Again…….I am SO SORRY for your great losses and am sending my love to you and your family!! Sincerest sympathy, Kathy Poortinga (waitress from HKG)!!
