Obituary

Sidney DeVries passed away on July 14th 2015 in Bellingham, WA at 78 years young.

Sid’s final days were spent surrounded by family, friends and his caregivers, or angels as he lovingly called them. Sid was born May 13th 1937 in Leeuward Netherlands to Sylvia and Douwe DeVries and immigrated with his family to the US when he was a teenager, eventually settling in Washington. Sid enjoyed a career in telecommunications, so much so that he even retired three times. In his retirement Sid was very active in his community on Lummi Island.

Sid loved the outdoors as a boy and never lost that love as he enjoyed many years of camping with his family and taking photos as an amateur photographer. He spent time tinkering on many different projects, and there was never a challenge too big for him to accomplish once he set his mind to it. Happy and full of life, his true love was spending time with his children and grandchildren, whether it was traveling or at home.

Sid is survived by his companion of many years Carolyn Clough, sister Sally Reehoorn, sister-in-law Murella DeVries and brother Mike DeVries, his children Bryan (Cathy) DeVries, Bill (Cassandra) DeVries, Lorraine DeVries, Kim (Guy) Hanson, John (Shawn) Devine, as well as grandchildren Ryan and Kindra DeVries, Mackenzie and Paige Devine, and Annika and Tate Hanson. While he will be greatly missed, he will be happy to join his dearly departed brother Simon DeVries and his beloved wife Barbara DeVries on his next adventure. He will be remembered for the unconditional love and support he continually expressed to his family and friends.

  1. This is a message for Sid’s family..I had the pleasure of working with and for Sid for many years at Pacific N.W. Bell, and later at A.T.&T.. He was one of the best PBX guys I ever knew. He was a very smart, savvy, guy who could figure out just about anything in telephone switching systems, and also mechanical things on an automobile or pick-up. But mostly, he was a fun guy to be around and hang out with. I am sorry for your loss, I will miss getting together with him, as I used to, and having a drink somewhere around “Happy Hour”. He will be missed by many… Sincerely, Roger…..
