Obituary

Eugene “Coke” Keene was born on December 7, 1936 in Longview, Washington to Eugene and Julia (Moses) Keene.
Gene joined the marines in 1953. In December of 1958, Gene and Charla were married and proceeded to have two children, Eugene (Fred) and Michael.

A few things Gene enjoyed were golfing, reading, music, home improvement and remodeling projects. He was an active member in their church as well as the the 7 Lakes Community Club and the Elks Club. He was an educator for the Everett School District and taught many different grades and subjects over the years. Gene specialized in remedial grade school reading, and was also a basketball and soccer coach, as well as a few other sports, when asked. He was loved and respected by many.

He is predeceased by his parents, Eugene Keene in 2014, and Julia Moses in 2000.

Survivors include Gene’s wife, Charla of Stanwood, WA; sons, Eugene Frederick Keene and his wife Patty Keene of Mountlake Terrace, WA and Michael Graham Keene, his wife Georgina and granddaughter, Alexandra Keene of Durham, NC; sister, Joann Raben of Olympia, WA; brothers, Mark Keene of Camano Island, WA and Brian Keene of Stanwood, WA; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene will be remembered for his love of family, his strong faith in God, wonderful sense of humor, his continued willingness to help others.

Memorial contributions may be made in Gene’s name to the Cancer Society for Leukemia and Lymphoma.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18th at 11:30AM in the Chapel at Moles Farewell Tributes – Greenacres (5700 NW Drive Ferndale, WA 98248)

  1. I’m so sorry for your loss. Mr. Keene was one of my favorite teacher at South Jr. High, in Everett. Not only was he my teacher, but he became a good friend. I will never forget the time he took me Flying, for my first time. I was so excited, I thought I was going to POP! He took me up, we flew around Sno. county for an hour! wow what a great time we had. I just want to say he was a wonderful, caring man and great teacher. With a great since of humor. He will be missed.

  2. You and Coke were good friends when we lived in Everett in the 60s. We remember and cherish the times we had together. Wish we had kept in touch. Our prayers and thoughts are with you, Charla, and your family.
