Obituary
Dixie Louise Tamcke passed away in Bellingham on December 25th, 2020 at the age of 79.
She was born on February 13th, 1941 in Auburn, WY to Fredrick and Vesta, and was raised in Montana. Dixie loved all things Western and was proud of her heritage. As a young woman, Dixie had horses, and had one horse in particular who would repeatedly try to peel her off with the barbed wire fence – that was when she learned to ride side saddle.
After Dixie graduated from Bellingham High School, she married her “Honey” Bill Tamcke on December 7th, 1959, and they had just celebrated 61 years of marriage. Together they had two children, Henry Tamcke of Cascade, ID, and Crystal (Bruce) Tamcke King of Bellingham, WA.
Art was Dixie’s love. She was active with the Whatcom Art Guild for over 50 years and was a staple at regional art shows, including Ski to Sea, the Tulip Festival, Northwest Washington Fair, and was featured at the Whatcom Art Market. She won multiple awards, honors, and ribbons. Her preferred medium was oil, watercolor, and pen and ink. She saw the beauty of the world and emulated it through her brushstrokes.
She also loved road trips, family reunions, and anything cinnamon, salty, or sweet, and was very active at her church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Dixie is predeceased by her Mother and Stepfather, Vesta and Conner Biendl, Father, Fredrick Ringel, and brother, David Ringel.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, son Henry, daughter Crystal (Bruce), six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and the love of art she instilled in her students.
Dixie will be laid to rest at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Animals as Natural Therapy.

I have such strong memories of spending time in the summers with Aunt Dixie and family, she was a strong woman that kept us kids in line. Trips to the local lakes, mornings at the Y, snooping through her Avon products, visiting family….great memories. Sending love to the family, sending love to Heaven.

Like so many Dixie touched my life with her love of art. I have a refrigerator magnet on my fridge that she gave me years ago, so I think of her often.

Crystal and Hank, I am so sorry to read of your mom’s passing. I am lifting you and all who mourn her in prayer, for peace and strength and comfort. I remember meeting your mom many times at the Lynden Fair and other places where she was displaying her art or representing the art community. Cousin Dixie…..we will miss you, your smile and your laugh! I always enjoyed getting your yearly Christmas card with a letter enclosed, sharing your news and events from the year. Mikol and I enjoyed stopping and visiting with you at your home a couple times. We have a few paintings of yours including the one that you finished which Uncle Connor had started. These will be treasured memories. Sending prayers and hugs to Bill, Crystal and Hank. Hold the sweet memories close to your hearts.
