Obituary
Bonnie J. Smith, age 74, passed away in Bellingham on July 31, 2021. Bonnie was almost a Christmas baby, born on December 28, 1946, to Oswald & Mary Olsen of Bellingham. She graduated from Bellingham High School in 1964 and spent several years working at a local law firm. Bonnie married Jeffrey Smith and together they raised 3 children.
Bonnie was a rock, always there when you needed her, generous and cheerful, with a deep love of life powered by a wonderful sense of humor. Bonnie had a knack for making the people around her feel special. She enjoyed lunch dates with girlfriends, drinks with the neighbors, her nightly talks with her mom, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren And, with Bonnie, Christmas was always the most wonderful time of the year.
Bonnie is survived by her mother Mary Vanderhage; daughter Michelle Fuller; son Curt Smith (Sarabeth); daughter Marci Intong (Corey McGrath); grandchildren: Jacob, Katie, Lexi, Cameron & Jeffrey; great-grandchildren Olivia & Huxley; brother Tom Olsen (Marty); sisters-in-law Jeanie Olsen & Carolyn Hanson (Larry); and numerous nieces & one nephew.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jeffrey in 2011; grandson Brandon Intong; brother Larry Olsen; in-laws Millard & Margaret Smith; and her step-father Clarence Vanderhage.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Jerry & Beth for looking after their mom and being such great neighbors, and to all the caregivers who worked so hard to take good care of her.
Bonnie will be laid to rest in a private service at Greenacres Memorial Park.

Bonnie was so special and a wonderful friend. I will miss our lunches every month and I will miss our chats on FB while she was in the rehab center and hospital. Love you Bon! Every time I see a shoe sale you will be on my mind! Blessings to your family. Joyce

Such a good friend. The world is emptier now. And I definitely miss the sharing of a twisted humor joke. there was always laughter surrounding Bonnie . This just isn’t how it was supposed to end. I will always remember and miss you.

As we called our girl, ‘Bon-Bon,’ we all looked forward to spending time with Bonnie during our shifts, we’d often take our breaks in her room confiding in her, listening to stories of her life, watching ‘garbage TV’ with her and gasping at lives other people live, she’d give us all advice as a loving mother or best friend would. That’s what she was to us, a best friend. There was a handful of us that had our hearts stolen by her and her bright blue eyes, warm smile and contagious giggle, and we gladly gave our heart to her. Names of these caregivers that took Bonnie on as our best friend can’t be shared, but she knows, watching over us, with her new golden wings, that we love her, so much, and we’ll always smile when we think of her and the impact her love had on us.

I worked with Bonnie many, many years ago @ Bellingham Family Practice. She was simply a joy to work with. Many funny stories, jokes & good talks. Thanks for making the world a happier place. You will be missed.
