Obituary

Gregg Hays was born in Bellingham, WA,  November 6th, 1947.  He graduated from Cascade High School and lived in Everett, Washington for most of his life. Gregg worked for the Department of Transportation for 37 years.  He started in June of 1982 as a maintenance worker for WSDOT at the Everett facility, and ended his career working as a bridge tender.

Gregg had an active interest in theater from an early age.  His many skills included producing, directing, set design, set building, and acting. He performed, among other places, at the Red Curtain Theatre and at the Everett Theatre.  In the early 1990s he cofounded, along with Tony Ventrella and David Blacker, the Mukilteo Rosehill Players. Also a writer, Gregg wrote several stage plays and short stories.

Gregg loved to travel and travelled extensively throughout his life.  He especially enjoyed going to Paris, Rome, Edinburgh, and Cairo, Egypt.

Gregg died peacefully at home after an aggressive battle with cancer.  He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his sense of humor, and his love for his family and friends.

Gregg is survived by his wife Ginger; daughter Sejata Jones (Rodney Jarrells), son Bodhi (Mary) Hays, and stepdaughter Ana Mitchell; grandsons Tobias Mills, Keegan Hays, and Burr Hays, and granddaughters Cassandra Mills and Taya Mitchell, and Taya’s dad Antonnio Mitchell; great-granddaughter Zoe Smith; sister Linda (Tim) Swanson and brother Gary (Paula) Hays; nephew Jeff Swanson (Sarah Danko) and niece Tracy (John) Jensen; great-nieces Christina (Justin) Bradley and Samantha Cook; great-great-nieces Roslyn Bradley and Amelia Cook; and dear friend David Blacker.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations go to Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, Washington State Department of Transportation Memorial Foundation, or Ludus Performing Arts.

There will be a memorial event to celebrate Gregg’s life on October 12th, from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at Red Curtain Foundation for the Arts, 9315 State Ave #J, Marysville, WA  98270.
