Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Libby, of Ferndale, passed away at age 71 on April 18, 2013. Margaret was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to George and Viola (Munn) MacDougall. When she was very young, her father passed away and her mother and siblings moved west. They settled in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Margaret was raised.

Margaret received a Bachelors degree from the University of British Columbia and taught Home Economics in Surrey and Burnaby, BC, following graduation.

While she was teaching, she attended a friends wedding, where she met Peter Libby. Margaret and Peter married on December 23, 1967, and they spent time living in Guam and Scotland as they traveled with the US Navy. Margaret raised two daughters, Brenda and Sonia, and spent 17 years living in Oak Harbor, WA, where she was a substitute teacher. After retirement, Margaret and Peter settled in Ferndale, WA.

Margaret was a devoted wife and mother who loved to sew. She made beautiful quilts, as well as wedding dresses for both of her daughters. She also loved to cook, garden, and spend time with her grandchildren and siblings. Margaret enjoyed learning about her family history by studying genealogy, and she loved to vacation with her sister and brother-in-law.

Margaret is survived by Peter, her husband of 45 years; daughters Brenda Jensen and husband Robb, of Coeur dAlene, ID, and Sonia Atchison and husband Vince, of Bellingham, WA; grandchildren Maddie, Robbie, Jasper, and Courtney; and siblings Lorna Temlett (Gary), Jim MacDougall (Joanne), Ian MacDougall (Janet), and John Jacobson (Shelley), as well as many nieces and nephews.

Margarets family would like to thank the caring and compassionate staff at Bellingham Health Care, Whatcom Hospice, and Visiting Nurses who took such wonderful care of her over the past few years.

A celebration of Margarets life will be held at 2pm on June 22, at Greenacres Memorial Park in Ferndale. Donations Information
