Obituary

Renda Sue Hemple passed away peacefully on May 30th, 2013 after a long and courageous battle waiting for a liver transplant. She was surrounded by her family and close friends. Renda was born on August 23rd, 1955 in Grand Rapids, MI to Bruce and Beatrice Hemple. Her father was a US Army Chaplain, and she lived in Germany, France, and many places in the United States with her family. Renda had a servants heart and entrepreneurial spirit that led her to many work endeavors throughout her life. When she moved from San Antonio, TX to Bellingham, WA in the late 1970s, she worked as a case manager for migrant children and families at Head Start. Later, Renda ran her own child care and house cleaning businesses. In the last few years she was a personal assistant to an elderly woman. Renda was a people person and an amazing listener. Whether you were a stranger or a friend, she made you feel cared about. Renda had an eclectic group of friends to whom she was deeply loyal, and that was made evident as they drew near to comfort her during her last days. Closest to her heart was her daughter Nattie whom she loved immensely. Renda also loved her role as Auntie to her many nieces and nephews, and delighted in her new role as grandmother to Donovan. While hospitalized at UW Medical Center Renda expressed to the doctors that she knew the possibility of a liver transplant was in Gods hands and she trusted fully in His plan. Renda finished well and now she is receiving the best care from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. And her liver is working very well. She is preceded in death by her father Bruce Hemple. She is survived by her daughter Natalia Burke (husband Ryan), and grandson Donovan; mother Beatrice Van Zonneveld (husband Herman), brother Russ Hemple (wife Sylvia) and children Megan and Jessica; brother Jerry Hemple and son James; sister Joy Moorlag (husband Ron), children Holly, Jeremy, and Heather, and grandnephew Kaiden; brother Tim Hemple (wife Tracy), children Terra Scott (husband Matthew), Angela Ingalls (husband James), and Kyle Schauer, and grandnephews Coltyn and Gage; and adopted daughter Poppy. A private burial service was held at Monumenta Cemetery on June 7th, 2013.

My condolences to the entire family. I first met Renda 40 years ago in San Antonio, when we were neighbors. She was a very dear friend to me and we sporadically kept in touch over the years. My love for her runs deep and I am saddened by her passing as if I have lost a sister. She was a loving and caring person and she thought the world of her daughter. Natalia, Bea, Russ, Jerry, Tim and joy, Renda was such a special person and a huge void has been created with her passing. We can only hope that Bruce was waiting with open arms to receive her. My thanks to her dear friend Arlene for keeping updated while the end neared. Tears have flowed and my heart hurts knowing that I’ll never hear her laugh again or see her smiling face. We all need for time to work it’s magic. Blessings and love to you all.

  4. My sympathy to Natalia in the loss of her mother and to Bea in the loss of her daughter. I always enjoyed my chats with Renda over the years and always enjoyed seeing her smiling face at the Trivia Bee. Renda’s father was very special to me, and my sympathy goes out to Renda’s siblings as well. May God comfort you in your loss.

  5. My heart goes out to you Natalia on the loss of your dear mother.
