Obituary

Fredda Jane Oaks Sigfusson Smith was born to Fred and Jean Oaks on September 10, 1933. She passed away December 14, 2015 surrounded by family.
Fredda always loved music. As a child she would sit around the piano and sing with her mother and grandmother. In middle school she participated in and was lead in the Operettas and she was also a Glee Club soloist. In high school Fredda was in Advanced Chorus, What-a-Shos (3 years) and the Girls League Council.
Fredda married Wilbur F. Sigfusson on September 24, 1955. She worked at Federal Reserve Bank in Seattle and then the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. as a telephone operator.
She married Wes Smith, May 9, 1973. They loved to dance at the Whidbey Island Navel Air Base and the Bellingham Yacht Club. They also enjoyed travel. They visited Reno, Mexico, Hawaii as well as several local trips. After Wes’ passing Fredda continued travel with her daughter Kristi and son-in-law Jim. Fredda’s favorite of these trips were to Las Vegas, Lake Havasu City, AZ and Charelston, SC.
Fredda is survived by her children Kurt (Kim) Sigfusson and Kristi (Jim) Loveall; grandchildren Kristian Sigfusson, Huntley Sigfusson, Lauren Sigfusson, Rachel Loveall; great grandchild Wesson Sigfusson. She was preceded in death by her father Fredrick Jordan Oaks; her mother Laura Eugenia (Jean) Hanna Oaks Garins and her husband Wessley H. Smith.

A very heartfelt thanks to Fredda’s caregiver, friend, and adopted daughter Janet (Cookie) Sofie.
A Celebration of Life will be held on January 16, 2016 from 1-5:00p.m. at Bellingham VFW, 625 N. State St., Bellingham. Memorial donations may be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital uncompensated care fund.

I have many wonderful memories of Fredda, as a young teenager on the southside…we would sit out on her little balcony and listen to the fishing boats talking (because ALL the cute guys were fishermen). Arlene (Jones), Carol (Sansregret), Fredda and I shared a lot of great times during our high school years…remembering one summer at Birch Bay, where Fredda’s mom was a chaperone. I moved out of state, would visit with her at class reunion times, and then, as often happens, we lost touch…
    Fredda, you may be gone from our earth now, but you will certainly not be forgotten by those of us that shared your life. Gayle (Wagar) Tapia
