Terramation
A Gentle Return to the Earth
Terramation, also known as natural organic reduction or human composting, is a new and deeply respectful way to care for a loved one’s body after death. It’s a natural process that transforms the body into rich, life-giving soil — a meaningful return to the earth that reflects love for both people and planet.
Why Families Choose Terramation

Environmental Stewardship
No embalming chemicals, caskets, or fossil fuels.

Carbon Savings
Far lower environmental impact than cremation or burial.

Personal Meaning
A tangible way to return to nature and continue the cycle of life.

Modern Simplicity
A clean, regulated, and thoughtful process designed with care.
How the Process Works
The result is clean, nutrient-rich soil that can be used to nourish trees, gardens, or conserved in a natural setting.

Step 1
Arrival & Preparation
After your loved one is brought into our care, they are respectfully prepared and placed in a special vessel with natural materials.

Step 2
Natural Transformation
Over approximately 30–60 days, nature takes its course. The body gently transforms into healthy, usable soil through warmth, moisture, and natural microbial activity.

Step 3
Soil Return
Families may choose to receive some or all of the soil created — to plant a tree, enrich a garden, or simply return to the earth. Others choose to donate it to conservation projects.
