Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Edward Means. Wayne departed this world on May 26, 2025, in York, Pennsylvania, where he had been living for several years, to be close to his sister and brother-in-law.
Wayne was raised in Bellingham, Washington, and attended Western Washington State College, earning a BA in Education. After graduation, Wayne began teaching in Monroe, Washington, and was the Assistant football coach and Head wrestling coach, plus playing “RUGBY” for Chuckanut Bay Rugby in Bellingham.
Wayne’s professional days carried him into Insurance and then Real Estate. He ended his Rugby Days in the Seattle area playing for Old Puget Sound Rugby Club. Wayne thrived in the sport of Rugby. He played representing Rugby for Western Washington Ravens, the Pacific NW Loggers, and the Pacific Coast Rugby Union.
“Wayne was tenacious, aggressive, fearless, a competitor, and respected among his peers.” He had a passion for Rugby and played for over twenty years. His highlight was in 1978 when he was selected to the prestigious Pacific Coast Grizzlies, deemed to be the top team in the USA that year. Hello Linda & Bill-
I’m sorry to learn of Wayne’s passing. My sincere condolences to you & your family. My son, Mason, plays for Chuckanut Rugby Club and I was saddened to see his memorial. I’ll have to ask the other Chuckanut alumni for some stories. Though I’ve only met Wayne a few times; I still remember all the Christmas parties at your parents house. My grandparents were Herb & Jean Bannister. My dad is Kevin. Again, my sincere condolences ❤️-Denise Sone (Bannister)
