Obituary

Walter William Kirschman passed away August 27, 2016, at the age of 81. He was born in Deerfield, Kansas on May 21, 1935. He joined the U.S. Marine Corp after he graduated from Mt. Baker High School in 1953. He married the love of his life August 20, 1955, in Whittier, California. He brought her back to Bellingham where they spent 61 years together. He is survived by his wife Betty, and three children, Robert Kirschman (Chris), Richard Kirschman (Linda), daughter Julie Richardson, four grandchildren, who he loved and adored, Brian Kirschman, Kelsey Kirschman, Kurt Richardson, and Sarah Kirschman. He is also survived by sisters, Lorraine McMonagle, Charlene Knowlton, Rita Miller, Mary Stuart, Jeannette Kirschman, and brother, Jim Kirschman (Linda) and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was an appliance repairman for Moose Zurline Appliances for many years and then moved on to teach appliance repair and refrigeration at Bellingham Vo Technical College for 25 years. He retired at age 60 and spent his remaining years on his 10 acre farm and apple orchard. He had many bird feeders and loved watching and identifying the birds that visited his feeders.
He was a hard worker and wouldn’t give in to his suffering from multiple health problems. He enjoyed many summers at Ocean Shores camping with family and friends, and also loved hunting and fishing. He loved the outdoors.
A public visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday August 31st at Moles Farewell Tributes Greenacres, 5700 Northwest Avenue, Ferndale, WA, 98248. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 1st at Trinity Lutheran Church, 119 Texas Street, Bellingham, WA, 98225. Reception will follow at the Grace Center. Graveside service with military honors will be at Greenacres Memorial Park at 2:00 p.m.
He will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Memorial donation may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice in Walt’s name.

  1. What a special man Walt was. Moose, my dad, thought so highly of him and he was the star in the appliance business. Still when we have problems we wish he were here.Everyone working on our appliances were trained by Walt. He left a big hole in this community, Nancy and Vi
