Michael M. Brown

Michael M. Brown, beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away at his home in Ferndale, WA on October 23, 2024, at the age of 60. Michael was born on February 10, 1964, in The Dalles, Oregon. Michael was known for his love and dedication to his daughters, Courtney Tovar and Collette Brown. He was a proud father, who loved more than anything time spent with family. Some of his family’s fondest memories include vacations to Lake Tahoe and Hawaii, Sunday dinners, game nights and going out to Chihuahua and Leader Block. Courtney remembers attending a Hillary Duff concert and a WWE Raw event, and her dad and Collette making fun of the way she pronounced meringue (mer-in-goo). Collette remembers her dad proudly grabbing her first homerun baseball and saving it in the attic for years. An avid fan of sports, Michael’s favorite teams were the Oregon Ducks, Duke basketball and of course the Mariners. In addition, Michael was also an avid golfer, achieving a hole-in-one during a tournament in Hawaii. He was a gifted woodworker, held his Masters in IT, and was a master of all trades. His family describes him as hilarious, determined, loving, caring, hard-working, ambitious, and very proud of his service in the U.S. Navy. He was a nerd who loved video games, his favorite being Diablo, and fantasy novels, especially Lord of the Rings, introducing new tools for Collette’s big imagination. He LOVED taking care of his lawn, and often received the Yard of the Month award in Hawaii. As Courtney beautifully recalls: My dad was truly an amazing, hilarious and caring man. He loved everyone and he welcomed everyone with open arms. I loved bringing people to my dad’s house for delicious home cooked meals and fun game nights. He is a true to form military man and took so much pride in his years of service in the Navy. My dad was incredibly smart and always encouraged me to be my absolute best. No matter what time, day or night, my dad was always there for me. My dad was a great listener and always had great advice. I’m going to miss watching sports with him and rooting for the ducks or Duke basketball with him by my side. I’m going to miss his spaghetti and his end of meal saying, “Thanks girls” and my sister and I complete the sentence, “For cleaning up”. Sure, it was annoying, but I would do anything to finish that sentence one last time. My dad will be so missed by so many people. He was wonderful and I can’t emphasize enough how much I loved him. I love you, dad. He is survived by his daughters, Courtney Tovar and Collette Brown; his son-in-law, Fernando Tovar; his brother, Bill McBurney; and his nieces, Jessica and Julia McBurney. A Celebration of Life for Michael will be held on November 16, from 2-5 p.m. at 4025 Kickerville Lane, Ferndale, WA 98248. We will always remember how you made us laugh, how hard you worked, and the love you gave us all.
