Obituary

Mary Ellen Voth, age 86, passed away peacefully at her home in Bellingham on the morning of Friday, June 12, 2020 with her husband of 62 years and other family by her side. She was born on March 9, 1934 in the rural outskirts of Deer Park, WA to John and Suzanna (Janzen) Reimer. She was the 7th of 8 siblings. She spent the early years of her life in Deer Park and then the family moved to a farm in Lynden, WA. Mary Ellen gave her life to Jesus at an early age and lived her life with a growing faith in God. Mary Ellen grew up in the Mennonite church and later raised their family in the Free Methodist Church where many life-long friends were developed. Mom was united in marriage to Maynard Voth on December 27th, 1957, and they recently had their 60-year anniversary celebration with family and friends. After a few years in Sedro-Woolley, WA, they made their home in Ferndale, WA. Mary Ellen was a homemaker, and she also ran a daycare out of the home for most of her adult life. Many of the kids she had taken care of over the years would still contact her from time to time to catch her up on what they were doing now as adults. These kids held a special place in her heart. She also taught Sunday School, held Good News Clubs for neighborhood kids, and enjoyed her time with friends Joan & Leanne in their coffee get togethers each week. After retirement, she and Maynard did some traveling, enjoyed the many activities at the Senior Center in Ferndale where she volunteered in their library. One of her all-time favorite pastimes was reading – right up until she passed away. Whether it was the bible or a novel, she loved to read. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Maynard Voth of Bellingham, WA; son Joel Voth (Sarah) of East Wenatchee, WA; daughter Patty Hawkins (Gary) of Lynden, WA; son John Voth (Carmen) of Mount Vernon, WA; and daughter Rhonda Voth Blaine of Bellingham, WA; 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nephews/nieces and her sister Doris Reimer Bouwman of Lynden, WA. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of life will be held at a later date yet to be determined. Any memorial donations can be made in her name to the Light House Mission in Bellingham, WA. Her ashes will be placed at Enterprise Cemetery, Ferndale, WA.
