Martin B. Morse

Martin B. Morse passed away on September 27, 2012. Marty was born in 1931 to Art and Marian Morse in Bellingham, WA. He remained a life- long resident of Bellingham. Marty is survived by his three children, Bryan (Colleen), Tim (Erica) and Susan (Jim), two grandchildren, Mallory and Stacie, Sister Patty (Mike) and numerous other precious nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Ellen, his parents and brother. Marty was a 1949 graduate of Bellingham High School and was an Air Force Veteran of the Air National Guard stationed in Alaska. He went on to be hired with the Bellingham Fire Department in 1953. He worked his way from pipe man through driver, Captain and Battalion Chief. In 1955 he married his wife of 49 years, Ellen. After retiring from the Bellingham Fire Department in 1984, Marty worked a few years with the Bellingham Parkade as a security attendant. He served the City of Bellingham for 35 years of distinguished public service. He and Ellen went on to tour the United States and take in their favorite sights. He always enjoyed bowling, the firemens ball, baseball games, playing cards at the casino and watching his cowboy shows on TV. He spent a lot of time attending his grandchildrens school events. He enjoyed working with Ellen in their yard full of flowers. Even though he retired from the Fire Dept., Marty always kept the Bellingham Fire Department Family as a top priority in his life. Until his death he could still tell you the color of the shutters on a house from a fire in the 1970s, and if he was really on his game, he could reel off all the street names in alphabetical order within the city limits. His dedication was unsurpassed. After Ellen passed, Marty found his calling assisting retired Fire fighters that were in care centers. He went every day to visit all the guys around the city. He would be their advocate for anything they needed. He loved getting together with the retired firefighters and telling old stories. He was unstoppable at a memorial service or BBQ with an open mike. He often provided support for the new firefighters with his many stories of experience and occasionally did television demonstrations for Medic One safety announcements. Marty had a great sense of humor and would always share it with whomever he met. You could always depend on a big smile and a hand shake. He would want you to remember him with smiles and laughter for that is how he will remember all of you! We will all miss Dad so very much. He is now at peace and will able to be with our Mom once again and continue their adventure.
