Obituary

Mark Hildebrand, a beloved brother, uncle, and community leader, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2024. Born on August 31, 1948, in Bremerton, Washington, Mark spent his formative years in Moraga, where he attended Campolindo High School, graduating with the class of 1968. A proud member of Boy Scouts Troop 212, he achieved the esteemed rank of Eagle Scout, reflecting his dedication and commitment to service from a young age.

Mark went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s College in 1972 and later obtained his master’s degree in Recreation Science from the University of Iowa. In 1980, he moved to Lynden, Washington, where he quickly became an active member of the Lynden Lions Club. His impact on the community was profound; he served as President from 1993 to 1994 and was honored as Lion of the Year three times. Mark received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship from Lions International and served on the Board of Directors for fifteen terms, playing a crucial role as a founding board member for Camp Horizon. His dedication to service earned him a lifetime membership in the Lions.

A devout member of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lynden, Mark’s faith guided him throughout his life. Despite facing personal challenges, he never allowed his disability to limit his enthusiasm for life. He approached every task with determination and shared in the same household responsibilities as his brothers.

He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, but they take comfort in the belief that they will be reunited with him in heaven.
