Obituary

On January 2, 2024, Lylene Johnson (m. Dickie) embarked on a new journey. Lylene passed at home with her family, after many years living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born August 31, 1947 in Sunnyside, Washington to Lyle and Verna Dickie, Lylene grew up on a farm in the Yakima Valley with her brothers, Dyke and Clay, and graduated from Grandview High School in 1965.

Lylene attended the University of Washington, where she met Richard, her husband of 56 years. In 1969, Lylene graduated from UW with a home economics BA, and worked as a teacher in the Tacoma School District. In 1973, she and Rich opened Lummi Island’s The Islander store. Operating “the store” until 1984, Lylene and Rich then opened a bakery in the Everett mall, and then operated a Bellingham-based landscaping business. After teaching at Whatcom Middle School from 1987-1989, Lylene joined Rich as a real estate broker. For almost thirty years, until her retirement in 2019, Lylene and Rich worked as real estate brokers at Gray Realtors, John L. Scott, and the Muljat Group.

From 1972-2002, Lylene and Rich lived on Lummi Island, where they raised their sons, Chandler, and Graham. In 2003, they moved to Edgemoor, where Lylene spent hours cultivating a beautiful garden and enjoying the birds at her many bird feeders.

Lylene was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle, and Verna. Lylene is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard Johnson; her son Graham; her son Chandler and daughter-in-law Sophie Davies; her brother Clay Dickie; her brother Dyke Dickie and sister-in-law Gloria Dickie; and many wonderful extended family members and close friends.
