Luanne Ruth Green

Luanne was born in Willmar, MN to Florence (Clough) and Lucius Abel. She moved to WA state right before WW II started, growing up in the Port Orchard area and graduating from South Kitsap High School. Off she went to work in the Navy Yard for several years; then as the years went by and her children came along, she ended up working in accounting for home developers, then on to administrative assistant roles for WA state legislators in the House, first, and then the Senate, where she finally retired. She was an effective advocate for the constituents who needed help from her Representatives and Senators. She had a knack for solving problems. Besides being involved in local Democrat politics, her leadership skills were further honed while participating in the organization, Business & Professional Women (BPW) for many years, at one time, serving as State President. The Mayflower Society and Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) drew her in; she served with distinction there, as well. (State Governor and Chapter Regent) Luanne loved to travel; if it wasn’t with her beloved husband, Ray, first going to the Faroe Islands & Europe, enjoying a cruise or going to stay in one of their WorldMark properties, then she would travel with her daughters Estella & Susan to see the USA and Great Britain. She loved her books (history was her fave), and watching PBS; she also loved genealogy, keeping in touch with her many cousins and other relatives throughout the years. If you knew Luanne, you knew she was a force to be reckoned with! A true redhead, she could be a pistol…but she balanced her feisty side with grace and charm. She was engaging and generous, loving and kind to the ones she loved. She served and worshipped God in her churches she attended (Milton Methodist and UMC Lakewood). Luanne is survived (and deeply missed) by daughter Estella (Steven) Whitford and Susan Clack (Thomas); her grandchildren Heather (Rowan) Abbe; Jennifer (Ike) Chandler, Joseph (Misty) Whitford, and Jacob (Dianne) Whitford. She is also survived by 3 great-grandkids, and her Faroese “daughter” Helena D. Joensen and her family. Luanne is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, her infant son Alan James, and her parents Florence and Lucius Abel. She was laid to rest at Moles Greenacres Memorial Park on May 27, 2026. There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, June 13th, 2026 at 11 AM, at the United Methodist Church at Lakewood, 6900 Steilacoom Blvd S, Lakewood, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations to HelpingHandHouse.org or the TahomaBirdAlliance.org would be appreciated. Also, the church would be happy to accept “Pollinator Plants” for their Community Garden.
